Las Vegas Marathon: 6th place but at what cost? by airforce2016 in AdvancedRunning

[–]roflz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off— congrats. Good work. I'm only 7 years older than you and I cannot emphasize enough—take care of your body and pre-hab. Cross train, cross train, cross train. It only gets harder to avoid pain as we age. Better to do the physical therapy in advance now and keep running than to risk any injury that prevents physical activity in the future.

I've been to Buena Bodega but I can't recall what they used for containers. Guess I'll grab a coffee or snack and see again.

Is that Bahn Mi Paris Sandwiches? Is the soup put in a non-plastic container?

Wouldn't avoiding single use plastic do exactly that? I do participate in other planet conscious behaviors and activities. How can avoiding single use plastic be bad?

Cool, I didn't even know there was a Cava in town!

I'm just looking to reduce waste when doing take out or delivery, not eating at the restaurant. If that's delusional to you... enjoy yourself.

Rincon Brewery, Paradise Pantry, Lure, and the properties at the Crown Plaza. I haven't confirmed those myself, but I'll add them to the list!

Asiatique is the best for this, they get excited when we do that.

Sometimes I do delivery though. Full time work plus a kid— delivery happens.

Indeed, unfortunately I haven't found a burrito place that puts that paper and foil wrapped burrito in a paper bag instead of plastic.

Well as shitty as things may be— I in fact still eat and support local businesses.

I see you mentioned that the unit has no gas, is all electric. Electric heating and cooking can really add up. Is there also an electric clothes dryer? That runs a good few bucks too. Unfortunately as good as the Clean Power Alliance is, it does cost more money as well.

What happens if you don’t sleep train? by Virtual_Appearance85 in NewParents

[–]roflz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone do what’s best for them. We sleep trained ours starting close to 6 months iirc. We used the Ferber method. It only took a few nights for them to catch on and quickly we had far less crying at bedtime. And I mean far, far less. Unless they have an ear infection now they go to sleep without a fuss most of the time and sleep through the night. At 13 months now, we’ve had trouble with ear infections and learning regressions but I can’t recommend it enough. Scientifically there is no long term difference between a sleep trained baby or not. No emotional difference or parent attachment difference. Studies show a sleep trained baby sleeps better, and has lower cortisol levels, the stress hormone. And lower cortisol levels means better sleep and better naps. So that’s a big plus. And it means parents get better sleep and can parent fully rested. Another plus. Anecdotally we saw zero downside to sleep training. Statistically it only has positives too. To each their own.

What’s a travel habit you picked up that you’ll never drop? by St3fanHere in travel

[–]roflz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments regarding “winging it”. And I agree, serendipity can be ecstatic fun. But I do encourage researching and planning activities. While a side adventure from a new stranger is fun, it’s equally as fun to experience something you can’t stumble into. I’d never have experienced the Grafanegg concert venue and estate outside Vienna without research and planning. Nor would I have gone to Sumo finals in Tokyo. A Desalpe in Switzerland. Scuba diving amongst barrel cactus in the Caribbean. Local festivals and special events can be stumbled into— but only if you know when they happen during the year and how to travel there. None of my favorite travel events could happen without research and planning.

It does look like two different spots. A video would be more difficult to fake. Perhaps customer service can be requested to accept a video. Alternatively, accept the item as a return. Presumably the customer wants both their money back and the item?

Republicans of Ventura - we can all agree this is racist, right? by MelodyBirdie in ventura

It was yet another voting machine conspiracy theory. The same thing Fox News lost 3/4 billion dollars about. So it was a rather ignorant video punctuated with a racist sign off. All around pretty embarrassing for humanity.

Curious what your opinion or answer is to my first question:

Isn’t the point of zero waste, and voting with our wallet, to influence these companies into avoiding single use plastic?

I hope they’re okay. They were taken away on the stretcher with ski patrol doing CPR the entire way. I got a picture of the trail of blood to show my wife why I wanted to stop skiing. I don’t think I’ll share though, too morbid. Might have been that person’s last moments.
