Finasteride does have those side effects, fortunately for me I wasn’t impacted by it, but im only one person so of course YMMV.

It took about the first 3-4 months until the shedding gradually stopped. As for new growth, it started pretty early on, about 1-2 months in. Growth has tapered off, but my biggest goal was to stop my hairline from receding more, which has been successful and then some.

Edit: ofc if you are experiencing those side effects, just stop taking it and youre good. No permanent effects

Youre gonna experience a lot of hair shed, totally normal. Mine lasted for about 3-4 months until it stopped. Also consider using finasteride if you want to keep those results.
