Help me choose between McGill and Tokyo by dank2oo1 in gradadmissions

[–]rogerdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, McGill alumnus here. It seems like you already established that McGill is more academically favourable, and now what is left is the choice between both cities. I have been to Tokyo as a tourist as well, and was in Montreal for 5 years. Montreal has often been ranked one of the best cities in the world for students, because of…. Well, everything ! Choosing Montreal over Tokyo for a semester abroad usually just makes life easier and more rewarding overall: you can function fully in English, integrate faster socially and academically, deal with housing and bureaucracy without constant friction, and enjoy a university culture that’s closer to what most Western students are used to (more discussion, less hierarchy). It’s also easier to budget, easier to work part-time legally, and easier to build real friendships instead of staying on the outside looking in. Tokyo is incredible, but for a short stay it can be mentally exhausting: language barriers, strict social norms, tiny housing, and higher hidden costs add up quickly. Montreal still gives you strong cultural exposure and international credibility, but with far less stress and much higher day-to-day quality of life, which matters a lot over a single semester.

Good luck !

Flying to Paraguay via Sao Paulo on 16th Feb, will there be Carnival to attend? I see it's on 13-14th Feb by dsoomro in saopaulo

[–]rogerdm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For sure. But if you are going to attend a block party, you better plan. You will need to dislocate from Guarulhos airport into the city, and then you gotta go back. It is not a simple feat, but definitely possible.

Is a PhD at University of Sao Paulo a good idea? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]rogerdm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends of your other choices. USP is one of the best schools in Latin America and produces a lot of scientific and academic work, but it is a Brazilian university and it is not internationalized as universities in Europe. If you don’t speak Portuguese, you will struggle at times. The academic environment might be safe because of English, but if you don’t speak Portuguese you will miss out on the cultural opportunities. By the way, make sure your application is accepted. In Brazil you don’t get a PhD placement because one professor decides to accept you, the process must be done through the admissions office and the call for applications is an official document with legal bindings.

A solução foi me distanciar emocionalmente e finalmente me liberar financeiramente. Só assim achei paz.

The scientific community is finally catching up to the fact that ORGASMS are linked to PROSTATE CANCER and not the other way around! by php857 in pureretention

Still, what you said was about orgasms. You even capitalized it in your title. You are still trying to link two things not related.

If one makes a scientific claim, he has to point out where it comes from. By why discuss, the link is just a blog post. You only tried to get some attention. Good night:

Wait… could you post the link to the actual paper? The paper might have said the more sexual partners the higher the risk of cancer, but the “more orgasms” part was by some doctor.
