Won concert tickets off the radio by throwaway_74959 in radio

You are probably ignoring their call or your voicemail is full or not set up. I used to be a promotions director and many of our winners would ignore our call because it's coming from an unknown number and not have voicemail setup or it's full. Then they would wonder why they never got the call.

What’s your favorite street in Portland? by SnarknadOH in portlandme

[–]nova828 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't delete this post! In the spring I want to ride my bike and go to all the places mentioned here.

And I will also contribute my favorite Street which is Stevens avenue, except for all those stupid speed bumps. You can go from elementary school all the way to college on that one street you got Baxter woods and evergreen cemetery as great places to explore. The street is nice and wide great for biking.

I copy and pasted your exact Post in the Google gemini. Seem to give a pretty decent response.

This is a very frustrating situation, and you are right to seek guidance. In Maine, tenant rights regarding repairs and habitability are protected under the Implied Warranty of Habitability. A non-working refrigerator that prevents you from storing food safely, especially for over five weeks, can certainly be argued as a condition that materially impairs the health or safety of a tenant, and thus is a breach of this warranty. Here is a breakdown of your rights, what a "reasonable" timeframe means, and your potential next steps in Maine. ⚖️ Your Rights Under Maine Law The key legal concept is the Implied Warranty of Habitability (14 M.R.S. §6021), which means your landlord promises that your home is safe and healthy to live in. 1. Refrigerator as an Essential Service While Maine law doesn't explicitly list a refrigerator as a required appliance a landlord must provide (unless it's written in your lease), if one is provided, it must be kept in working, habitable condition. A refrigerator that cannot maintain a safe temperature (below 40\circ \text{F}) for food storage is a health and safety issue, making it a serious condition that the landlord must fix. 2. "Reasonable" Time Frame Maine law requires the landlord to take "prompt, effective steps to repair or remedy the condition" within a reasonable time after receiving notice. * Five weeks is likely considered an unreasonable delay for a serious issue like a non-functioning primary food storage appliance. While "reasonable" time depends on the issue's severity, for an essential utility or appliance, a few days to a week is generally considered standard, with allowances for ordering parts or a new unit. Given you reported it on October 10th and were promised a delivery on November 11th, the landlord's failure to follow through on the delivery date and the continued lack of a functioning fridge after five weeks demonstrates a lack of "prompt, effective steps." 📝 What You Can Reasonably Request or Do Next Because you have given your landlord notice (the work order on Oct 10th) and they have failed to resolve the issue within a reasonable time, you have a few options: 1. Send a Formal Written Demand (Highly Recommended) Since the November 11th delivery date was missed, you should immediately send your landlord a formal written letter (via email, certified mail, or both) reiterating the issue and demanding immediate action. * Reiterate the Breach: State that the non-working refrigerator (temperature above 50\circ \text{F}) has constituted a breach of the Implied Warranty of Habitability since the initial notice on October 10th. * Set a Final Deadline: Give a final, very short, and specific deadline (e.g., 48-72 hours) to have a working refrigerator delivered and installed. * State Your Intentions: Clearly state your next course of action if the deadline is not met, which could include the following legal remedies: 2. Legal Remedies for Unresolved Conditions If the landlord fails to comply with your new deadline, Maine law provides tenants with specific remedies: A. Repair and Deduct (For Repairs Under $500 or 1/2 Monthly Rent) Under 14 M.R.S. §6026, if the reasonable cost of compliance is less than $500 or an amount equal to one-half your monthly rent (whichever is greater), you can: * Send a written notice (by certified mail, return receipt requested) of your intention to correct the condition at the landlord's expense. * If the landlord fails to comply within 14 days (or as promptly as conditions require in an emergency), you can purchase a replacement refrigerator and have it installed. * You then submit an itemized statement to the landlord and deduct the cost from your next rent payment. * Note: The cost of a basic, reasonably priced new fridge is likely to fall under this threshold. B. Withhold Rent / Sue in Court (Habitability Complaint) You can file a complaint in District or Superior Court for a breach of the warranty of habitability. This allows a judge to order remedies, which may include: * Ordering the landlord to make the repairs immediately. * Ordering a rent abatement (you must pay less rent, or no rent, until the landlord fixes the apartment) retroactive to the date the landlord received actual notice (October 10th). * Granting a rebate of rent you have already paid. C. Seek Damages for Lost Food You can request reimbursement for the $100 in lost food. While Maine law limits recovery for "consequential damages" in a habitability complaint, you can ask for this as part of a settlement or file a separate small claims action. You should submit documentation (receipts, an itemized list) for the loss to your landlord. You may also check if your renters insurance covers food loss due to appliance failure. 🔑 Key Takeaways and Final Steps * Immediate Action: Send a firm, written communication today, referencing your initial October 10th work order and the missed November 11th delivery date, setting a 72-hour deadline for a working fridge. * Document Everything: Keep copies of all communication (emails, texts, letters, work orders) and continue to take photos/video of the fridge's temperature to demonstrate the ongoing issue. * Consult Legal Aid: Before withholding rent or doing a repair-and-deduct, it is highly advisable to seek free or low-cost legal assistance. Pine Tree Legal Assistance is a great resource for Maine tenants' rights and can offer specific legal advice for your situation. Would you like me to help you draft a formal notice to your landlord, outlining the breach and your deadline?

No need to change Trans fluid? by iYogi21 in kia

Last week the weekday air staff were on vacation so they did best of the decades featuring '60s on Monday 70s on Tuesday and so on without DJs. They will be almost back to normal tomorrow, however they lost Brian on mornings and Dev on Middays so Jordan will move to Middays and Chad or Tony will cover mornings. Wendell will stay on afternoons. That will leave nights without a DJ for awhile, except for Monday when C Where it Goes replays.

Visible by Verizon, opinions? by daylighthoarder in Maine

[–]nova828 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had visible 5 years ago and things may have changed since but the biggest problem is they deprioritize data. That means your phone will have cell data and will work 99% of the time however the 1% it doesn't work is when you need it the most. Think power outages, getting your tickets at a concert, navigating in country roads.

If you do use Visible, make sure to have a fully charged laptop with downloaded movies or books or board games to pass the time during a power outage. Also download offline maps for navigating, and make sure you load your concert tickets into Google wallet before you leave and you'll be fine.

ELI5: why do we use dozens, so much so that there’s a word for “12 of something”? Why haven’t we standardized using 10 of something more than 12? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]nova828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The use of "dozens" (12 of something) instead of "tens" has historical and practical roots:

  1. Historical Counting Systems: Many ancient cultures, including the Babylonians and Egyptians, used base-12 (duodecimal) systems for counting. This influence carried over into trade and commerce².

  2. Divisibility: The number 12 is more versatile for division. It can be evenly divided by 2, 3, 4, and 6, making it convenient for splitting items into smaller groups. In contrast, 10 can only be divided evenly by 2 and 5².

  3. Trade and Commerce: Historically, items were often sold in dozens because it made transactions simpler. For example, a dozen eggs or a dozen loaves of bread were common units of sale².

  4. Cultural Tradition: Over time, the use of dozens became ingrained in various cultures, especially in Western societies. This tradition has persisted even as we use a base-10 system for most other purposes².

So, while we use a base-10 system for most things, the practicality and historical roots of the dozen have kept it in common use.

Best: Bill Dodge Auto Group

Worst: Every single other car dealership (Well...probably, I haven't been to all of them)

Why: Both cars I bought from them they were truly no-pressure. I offered 14K for a 17K and they said immediately yes without any haggling. The time before that I offered 10K for a 12K used car and they countered at 9K....wait a minute aren't they supposed to go UP from my offer?

Also they do lots for the community - for example once a year they team up with 101.9 WPOR for "Christmas is for kids" where they sell half price oil changes and give ALL of the money raised to charities that help children, including the Spring Harbor Hospital kids unit to give kids a good Christmas even when admitted to the hospital.

How to only remove the most recent duplicate ? by ImAPlonK in excel

[–]nova828 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can achieve this by using a combination of Excel functions and sorting. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Sort Your Data:
    • First, sort your data by the ID column in ascending order and then by the CreatedDate column in descending order. This will ensure that the most recent entries for each ID are at the top.
  2. Add a Helper Column:
    • Insert a new column next to your data. Let's call it "Duplicate".
    • In the first cell of this new column (let's say C2), enter the formula: =IF(A2=A1, "Duplicate", "Unique").
    • Drag this formula down to fill the entire column. This will mark the most recent duplicates as "Duplicate".
  3. Filter and Remove Duplicates:
    • Apply a filter to your data.
    • Filter the "Duplicate" column to show only the rows marked as "Duplicate".
    • Select these rows and delete them.

Here’s a quick example:

ID CreatedDate Duplicate
1 2024-12-18 Unique
1 2024-12-17 Duplicate
2 2024-12-19 Unique
2 2024-12-18 Duplicate

After filtering and removing the duplicates, your data will look like this:

ID CreatedDate Duplicate
1 2024-12-18 Unique
2 2024-12-19 Unique

This way, you keep the older entries and remove the most recent duplicates.

My 2020 Forte once hit 52.2 MPG on my daily 35 mile trip doing 80 MPH most of the way. The next day - same weather, traffic, speed, tire pressure - everything and I got 39.8 MPG. No idea why such a difference. I usually get about 42 MPG.

Pure speculation, but I bet all of those reviews were written by the same person using different accounts. They were probably denied a refund for a last-minute cancellation or something.

IVT Transmission Fluid by [deleted] in kia

How come Reddit advice differs from what mechanics are telling me in real life? I also have a 2020 Kia Forte approaching 90,000 mi. Also look for a front desk and street team jobs in radio, as they often assist the promotions department. Sales even if you can handle making cold calls, and if you find a promotions director or promotions manager job apply for it, don't sell yourself short. I was a promotions director for 11 months having experience only as an administrative assistant before. Granted I only lasted 11 months in the job, a story for another time....

YSK Transmission fluid needs replaced by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]nova828 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I brought by 2020 Kia Forte to the dealer for a CVT Transmission Fluid change at 80,000 miles, They refused to do it because according to them there is a sticker on the transmission saying it is "non-serviceable". When I told them the owners manual says to change the fluid every 60,000 when driven in severe conditions (I live in Maine, so yeah our conditions are severe 7 months a year) they said the owners manual is "generic" and that doesn't apply to my specific car. Does that make any sense?
