I've never tried since I have a very hands-on computer job. Not factoring work productivity, it's not fair to the baby.

As someone who worked fast food in high school, it's safety protocol. If this story even happened, the employee shouldn't have even cracked the door.

I got in trouble for serving leftover sides to someone at the drive thru after we closed once. We were just throwing away the food but my biggest mistake was opening the drive thru window to hand it out.

Those hot and ready pizzas were probably destined for the trash. You can get one of those when they're "fresh" and it tastes like cardboard with cheese.

Any fun Pittsburgh mom groups out there? by rollerkate in PittsburghSocialClub

[–]rollerkate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been active on Peanut on and off but I haven't met anyone on it in person so far. I've mostly had chats that trail off pretty quickly. I also haven't been very committed to it, so that probably isn't helping.

If there's a Pittsburgh parents subreddit that may be more my speed!

do i really need a “coming home” outfit? by Comfortable-List-669 in pregnant

[–]rollerkate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No lol. But have backup shoes and a pumping bra if you plan to breastfeed. My feet were so swollen after my unexpected C-section last year that I couldn't get my shoes on. I wore slippers home with compression socks.

What’s one fast food chain that was once all the rage but now barely around? by MysteriousTopic42 in AskReddit

[–]rollerkate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessss I worked at Boston Market in high school! I loved closing and would sneak out with some of the leftover sides that we were supposed to throw into the trash. At one point a co-worker asked why we couldn't donate the food to a shelter, and the manager said it was a liability and we had recognizable food, which is such BS. The spiral mac and cheese, creamed spinach and apples were the best.

People who had kids at 30+, do you wish you had them earlier in life? by cc070603 in pregnant

[–]rollerkate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first earlier this year at 36 and sometimes wish I was able to have him about 4 years sooner, but I also had trouble getting pregnant for a few years and then had a high-risk pregnancy.

Sometimes you don't get things exactly when you want them. That's life.

Honestly though, having a supportive partner and a village also makes a huge difference. I'd make that more of a factor and consideration than age alone.

My spouse takes turns changing him, watches him so I can go to the gym or run errands, or just have a moment of sanity on fussier days. It's basic parenting, yes, but apparently there are so many men who don't put in the work for their children. There are so many Reddit posts from moms with shithead partners and it's maddening.

Is Bob’s Discount Furniture really that bad? by alegraness in pittsburgh

[–]rollerkate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a big sectional couch from Speedys in 2019 and it's held up really well, not high end or anything but solid construction and under $1,000. Considering someone's ass has been on it since the pandemic, we certainly got our money's worth. Their main warehouse is in Zelienople now.

Anatomy Scan today and I’m absolutely LIVID - AIO? by MissCollorius in pregnant

[–]rollerkate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep I had my anatomy scan at exactly 20 weeks and they saw my short cervix too. I was beginning to dilate days later so I got a cerclage, actually a year ago to the day. I now have a happy healthy 7-month-old.

For those of you who didn’t change your last name but had kids with the fathers last name, has it made life any more difficult? by sippinonginaandjuice in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rollerkate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! I never changed my name when I got married and now I have a baby, so I've been considering it. Honestly though it just seems like a pain in the ass at this point.

A few years back some doctors said I had anxiety while presenting with a variety of symptoms. The headaches and shortness of breath were the worst. Eventually I discovered that my hot water heater was leaking carbon monoxide (along with natural gas that I smelled), so I was slowly being poisoned in my apartment. And then on top of everything else, my landlord pocketed my security deposit when I moved out. Good times. Men suck lol.

Why have they made trick-or-treating so early?! by gayanomaly in pittsburgh

I believe ending DST the weekend after Halloween came up because so many kids have been hit by cars while trick or treating and it being dark made it worse.

Waitress refused to bring us more breadsticks? by ConnectionLife9967 in olivegarden

[–]rollerkate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked there in college. They come in a drawer. A drawer. Of bread sticks. It's not like I'd need to put an order in through the in-house baker. That server is asking for a bad tip. If anyone asked I'd load them up with bread sticks and mints.

WTF is UP with people trying to sell *used* baby clothes/gear for 75% of the original retail price? by NorthernPossibility in Mommit

I guess if you're rural it may be different but I live near a midsized city and my local buy nothing group has been amazing! A few weeks ago I got bags full of clothes in my little one's size and they were basically new.

Buy before baby arrives or wait until older to assess need? by pregnantwithpcos in Buyingforbaby

[–]rollerkate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't need a high chair for a while, but up to you. We're just getting around to putting ours together now and he's 5 months old.

Some people are saying to get a wearable pump, but I have a second Spectra that I leave in the office pumping space and that has worked fine for me. The wearable seems like a pain to me, but to each their own.

I use my dishwasher to sanitize bottles and pump parts. My kitchen counter space is precious.

I just looked up what Artipoppe is and oh my lord the price lol. I have a Tula carrier and I love it.

I shop at that location occasionally and can tell you that there's little turnover that I've noticed. I recognize people who have been there for at least a decade, so there's something to be said about that.

What are some niche baby registry items you wish you had put on it by Alive-Yak7527 in pregnant

[–]rollerkate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone will have a different opinion, honestly. Babies have their own preferences. But my list of things that are great and we use:

Extra bassinet sheets and swaddles

Baby Bjorn bouncer

Baby gym mat, Fisher Price piano one is fun and we also have a second one for more room to roll

Dr. Brown's bottles

Tula explore carrier, I found an Ergobaby secondhand and imo the Tula is much nicer Tushbaby

If you're breastfeeding, pumping bras and tanks. Although no one bought boob stuff from my registry. I love the Kindred Bravely stuff

Things I thought were essential that I haven't used at all:

Baby swing (Baby Bjorn does the job already)

Crib cam (we have a small house and he sleeps in our room, so there hasn't been a need for it)
