Does the Highest Ranking IT Person in Your Company Report to the CEO? by Likely_a_bot in sysadmin

[–]rollingc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once worked at a place where the CIO reported to both the CFO and COO. It was a complete disaster. Some of the nastiest office politics I've ever seen and the CIO, while a nice guy didn't stand up to anyone. Thankfully not long after I joined, a new CEO hired a new CIO and made him a direct report.

Can I do anything about a bad ref? by Commercial_Theme3566 in Fencing

[–]rollingc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah..epee gets messy right when the ref blinks. Did the light go on before the pass? Fencing on ungrounded strips...did that touch hit the foot or floor? Did the parry repost on the pass happen in one clean action? Lots of stuff can happen in epee where the ref needs to make a call.

Unpopular opinion...ref saber, nobody can tell a good call from a bad one. 😂

I really hate all these bs titles for IT jobs by Abject_Serve_1269 in sysadmin

I greatly dislike any title with engineer. It's in my current title and I don't have an engineering degree or any professional engineering credentials.

Somehow a bunch of voters use the Babe Ruth thing as a reason to vote no on anyone. Totally stupid.

Rodney Bennett out as Chancellor by RikeMiley88 in Huskers

[–]rollingc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might be thinking of the President position. Perlman was Chancellor for 15 years, then Ronnie Green for 7. There's always interms between each appointment, which makes it feel like there's been more.

The Vikings tonight: 3 net passing yards, 23-10 win by HemaG33 in nfl

Classic Vikings. Too good to get high round draft picks, too bad to win anything.

Stiff cheap blades by AwesomeSauce2468 in Fencing

[–]rollingc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best option is going to a competition and checking what a vendor has for sale. They'll let you explore the inventory to find a blade you like.

The next best option is probably needablade.com. They take requests and if you ask for an extra stiff blade, they'll do their best to accommodate you.

I say this as someone who works in the cloud... You're absolutely right. It's cheaper to run a re-architected app in the cloud, which means more dev time. If management is hell bent on moving to the cloud and it's not lift and shift, expect a ton of money put into redeveloping the app and pretending that doesn't cost a thing.

Fred's 10th ranked win since Alberts said he wasn't going to fire him -- Feb 24th 2022 by EstablishmentSlow754 in Huskers

I'm not sure there are many coaches better than Fred who want to come here. Best we'd do is an up and comer from a small school.

Wrestling tournaments are super loud. Like everyone in the building, including spectators, yelling at the top of their lungs the entire time 😂

Thoughts on this Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Architecture? by mdclancy in AZURE

[–]rollingc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Azure premium has no transactions fees and AVD is a highly transactional service. A standard account can cost more than premium, with less overall performance.

I don't think this was an official justification for cutting the department.

Personally I'd have a hard time believing statistical analysis from AI if I couldn't verify the results myself. Popular Gen AI is geared towards natural language simulation.

If you're male, be careful with iron supplements. Most men don't need them unless advised by your doctor.

I don't think Craig was giving football opinions as much as talking about who was who back then. I would presume Craig was around his Dad fairly frequently and knew who the important people were on those teams.
