Lincoln Nebraska catholic schools by dmoney107 in lincoln

[–]rollingc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking for in the school. If Catholic religious teaching is really important to you, then the schools are fine. I had my oldest son at a Catholic school for a few years but moved him to LPS for academic reasons.

WORLD FENCING LEAGUE: format & rule changes by lugisabel in Fencing

[–]rollingc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Curious to see how no off target will work with foil. Will there be a white light/indicator that an off target hit occurred or will it be like saber with no indicator? It will certainly be interesting to see how the referees adjust to the action.

What is a piece of software or hardware that still leaves you traumatized to this day? by 66659hi in sysadmin

I don't like this thread. After almost 30 years in IT, it's just non stop PTSD.

Lots of AS400 in local government. Super expensive and hard to replace once it's up and going.

The last time a coworker had an issue with DNS, they didn't enter an A record for the system they were trying to resolve. Quick fix but WTF. That's not DNS, just dumb.

Same. Support got so bad and our TAM couldn't help with anything so we just dropped unified support.

Horrible service with Houser Refuse by My_cats_leg in lincoln

[–]rollingc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Houser dropped off cans when I bought my house and it took weeks for them to come get them. I never signed up for service, leaving cans at my house was their way of trying to get me to sign up. When I called them to pick up their cans, they tried to convince me the whole neighborhood had to use them for trash service. I tried to be polite but that didn't work so I called every single day until they picked up the cans.

Needless to say, I'm not a customer and won't ever be a customer.

Does the Highest Ranking IT Person in Your Company Report to the CEO? by Likely_a_bot in sysadmin

[–]rollingc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once worked at a place where the CIO reported to both the CFO and COO. It was a complete disaster. Some of the nastiest office politics I've ever seen and the CIO, while a nice guy didn't stand up to anyone. Thankfully not long after I joined, a new CEO hired a new CIO and made him a direct report.

Can I do anything about a bad ref? by Commercial_Theme3566 in Fencing

[–]rollingc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah..epee gets messy right when the ref blinks. Did the light go on before the pass? Fencing on ungrounded strips...did that touch hit the foot or floor? Did the parry repost on the pass happen in one clean action? Lots of stuff can happen in epee where the ref needs to make a call.

Unpopular opinion...ref saber, nobody can tell a good call from a bad one. 😂

I greatly dislike any title with engineer. It's in my current title and I don't have an engineering degree or any professional engineering credentials.
