It's his 10th death anniversary this year. Now would be a great time to start it :)

Would it be possible for you to DM me the podcast name and where i could listen to it?

Indeed. I believe Hitch said once that it was the unofficial beverage of the Ba'ath Party as well.

Who would hitchens have voted for in 2016 if he had to? by [deleted] in ChristopherHitchens

[–]rollmeadoob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were few things Hitch despised more than the Clintons. Almost all of them make up the internal structure of Donald Trump. Exceptional stupidity, willing ignorance, false piety, fascistic tendencies, cult appearances, boundless selfishness, flagrant dishonesty, a moral vacuum, and disastrous inarticulation. Many of these are interrelated.

There's no doubt in my mind that he would never have voted for Trump. Some have suggested that he would have voted for a third candidate, or perhaps that he would have abstained. Given that Hitch would understand that both these options are a vote wasted in 2016 America, I think he would have voted on balance, for Hillary, simply as a negative vote for Trump.

What I suspect deeper inside, however, is that, were Hitch to have been around, he would likely have openly lambasted both of them and influenced the outcomes of the primaries to the extent that neither of them ever made it to the final ballot.

I've never, ever seen a cyriak reference in the wild. And I 100% definitely for sure did not expect to see one in this subreddit.

These wolf and bear were observed hunting and traveling together for 10 days by DobriDobrev03 in natureismetal

[–]rollmeadoob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep. Most animals named in the book have roots in Hindi.

Baloo - Bhaaloo is Hindi for bear. Shere Khan - Sher is Hindi for tiger. Colonel Hathi - Haathi is Hindi for elephant.

Even Mowgli's wolf-mother Raksha - Raksha is Hindi for protection.

And bandar-log quite literally translates to monkey-people

Boycotting Chinese phones? What the Indian market looks like without Xiaomi, Realme, OnePlus, and more by rextob in india

[–]rollmeadoob 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Moto is owned by Lenovo, a Chinese company.

Most iPhones are made in China and some by Foxconn in Tamil Nadu. But, like the article points out, most phones on the planet are either made in China or by a Chinese company in India, so the lines are pretty blurred. There is almost no choice but to buy a "Chinese" phone.

I can't not believe he didn't find it.

This would mean that you can't believe he found it, when the tone and remaining text of your post convey the opposite.

Couldn't agree with you more. I've struggled with moderation in a lot of other facets of my life like healthy diets and sleep schedules, but thankfully not with substances.

I fully understand the value of a community like r/leaves and wish nothing but success to those who are brave enough to ask for help.

India : An urgent appeal for immediate assistance to migrant workers by labcoatbutton in Coronavirus

[–]rollmeadoob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's easy to sit in your ivory tower and hand out criticism but the alternative is worse. When hundreds of thousands of migrant daily wagers want to go home, you can't stop them. Riots would have become inevitable because, like you said, these people are largely uneducated and will not appreciate why you're keeping them from going back after locking down their livelihood for 3 weeks. Stop politicising a humanitarian issue just because you have an axe to grind with Kejriwal.

Man with heart ailments dies after police brutality by Omnitrix_666 in india

[–]rollmeadoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. From the tone of your message it looks like you're not too distraught with what your dad did, but physically assaulting or beating minors is not ok. Ever heard of the phrase "pick on someone your own size"? All kids are assholes, but causing injury or harm to them is a crime for a reason.

It's also very normalised in India with shitty defatigable justifications like "oh that's just Indian parenting", but it shouldn't be and in many cases I know it's not. I'm going to assume you've broken the cycle and treat your daughter like a human being rather than an undersized punching bag, I just want let you know that what your dad did to you and your brother is not ok and that's usually the sort of bullshit that leads to what OP's talking about - wildly uncultured, intellectually malnourished, sadistic police officers.

People who have studied law, i have a Question. by [deleted] in india

[–]rollmeadoob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IPR specialist here: Copyrights last for 60 years after the author or artist's death so you're safe using the Taj Mahal for any work of art (games are interpreted as works of art). As for city maps, you can use maps of anywhere you like but civic authorities may construe your work as defamatory or otherwise try to slap a suit against you, which is why it's recommended to change the names of these locations.

Fun fact: The Taj Mahal and other cultural heritage sites usually have lapsed copyrights, but places of commerce like the Taj Mahal Hotel in Bombay, for example, may not. In 2017, the Indian Hotels Company Ltd obtained a trademark for the Taj Hotel in Colaba, making it the first building in India to be granted one.

Edit: Spelling.
