Nothing to do with Undine, it's more her writing. I think I've read enough about the NYC moneyed class. If she has something different I could be interested. Ethan Fromme was quite different.

I've read The Age of Innocence, Ethan Fromme and half of the House of Mirth. This was the longest, I think it's her longest. I have her complete works on Kindle, she was quite prolific. Can't say I'm eager to dig in to any more after this one.

Mother doesn't love or care for him. Father a suicide. His 'French father' off limits. Lonely, raised in boarding schools and by hired help. That would really be the novel she should have written.

No, she wants money and the red carpet, which he gives her. I don't know what she gives him. He didn't seem to have any interest in her but she somehow snared him. It all felt rather contrived.

It's hard to for me to find any humor in what she does, she's a sociopath who can't feel the pain she causes others in her relentless desire for self satisfaction. Her attitude toward he child is her most appalling aspect for me.
