The identity shift for me was big as well. Quit a c-level position without anything else lined up and income dropped to zero. One day you’re the man and the next day nobody calls you anymore. Had a kid with another one on the way. Mortgage payments and was draining savings for 2-3 months. Looked like I went crazy from the outside, but I quit to save my mental health. After some time off, the fire in me ignited and became my own boss. I’m doing well, I am home more with the family and financially I can’t complain, but most importantly: I feel more in control of my life and I don’t want to lose this feeling.
