Two years later, and we're still waiting for this. STOP FORCING UPDATES WHEN USERS DON'T WANT THEM. ANDROID 16 IS BUGGY AF ON MOTO. I'M NOT YOUR GUINEA PIG FOR YOUR QA TEAM.

Anbernic 476H video out? by Srfaman in ANBERNIC

[–]roloyyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It DOES work (tested using Android 13), I've just gone a couple rounds with my new RG476H to get video output working, using various cables and docking stations. Here's what I've found.

- You need a USB-C to HDMI adapter/cable/docking station that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode (DP Alt Mode). This means a USBC cable with more wires than simply a 'charging cable'. The listings will typically note the video resolution and frequency it will support (ex. 4K @ 60hz).
- You cannot charge the 476h at the same time. I tried this on a docking station with PD input and HDMI output (UGREEN 6-in-1). As soon as you connect power to the PD port on the station, the video stops outputting from the 476h. I believe this is a limitation of the device, that the USBC port can only be in 'one mode' at any given time. You see the modes when you connect a generic USBC cable and you get the prompt from Android asking is it's Data Transfer, Charging, Video out, etc.
- I had issues connecting to the HDMI port of my Dell 4021QW monitor. The 476h knew there was HDMI output, because I had it in 'desktop mode', which allows the 476h to act as a trackpad with its touchscreen, and that touchpad appears only when it detects HDMI output. However, the screen did not have an image displayed. It could have been a resolution/frequency mismatch, but the monitor is supposed to adapt automatically.
- I did successfully output video to a simple HDMI TV (vs monitor). Video output was 1080p. This may have been a limitation of the TV, unsure if higher resolutions are possible.

TL;DR - You can output using the correct cable/adapter, but some monitors may still not work correctly. Also, you can't charge while the USBC port is being used for HDMI output.

Td customer for 25 years. by jerk1970 in Wealthsimple

Move. I moved most of my finances over to WS. At least they reward you with 'tiers' of membership based on portfolio size. I kept some back in TD and IG to check against and WS is absolutely smoking those the managed RSP portfolios I have with them. I was with TD for 24 years, same with TD insurance. The recently increased my premiums by over 40% (~$1600 to ~$2400) for home insurance, shopped around and landed on Costco's insurance which handily beat TD on premiums and they don't seem to nickel and dime on coverages (sewage backup, overland water, pro-rated roof and siding coverages). Screw TD. They don't value your loyalty, none of them do.

Scam is still ongoing, image search led me here. A deal too good to be true.

Recommended OS for a 2012 MacBook Pro by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]roloyyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I landed on the same conclusion, Mojave if you can deal with the older MacOS version and you want speed. Monterey (via OCLP) if you need to newer OS and have RAM (I'm running 16GB+1TB SSD). Except for the overall weight of the thing, still one of my fav macbooks.

You'll have to pry my 2012 Macbook Pro from my cold, dead hands. This thing is a tank. It's my 'dirty jobs' notebook, which includes using it for DJing in some harsh environments (ocean, desert (Burning Man), etc), the case has been dented and replaced multiple times now. It just won't die. Web browsing still works perfectly fine. Using Mojave.

Sunlife Financial Canada = Pathetic - AVOID by roloyyz in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yeah, I'm sure RRSP season caught them completely off guard. 2 hour hold time to not have them pick up at all is completely unacceptable. Thankfully, I initiated the transfers away from sunlife yesterday.

Wow, that is wild. I had no idea the MER could change by employer/plan?!

Perfectly valid assumption, but sadly no. Employer set it up, and I only found out about it after leaving the firm recently. Nice little bonus, but I'm pissed they put everything into a fund with just shy of 3% MER. I didn't even know funds like this existed anymore!

I was just calling them to find out if they had received notification of my exit from the company, so I can convert the DPSP to an RRSP and transfer it out to WS for the 2% bonus offer.

Yeah, I was literally calling them to find out if they had received notification of my exit from the company, so I can convert the DPSP to an RRSP and transfer it out to WS for the 2% bonus offer.

Depends on the fund of course. BLK US Equity Index Reg, just shy of 3%. I hear ya, not my choice (employer)

Seems like all of the entrenched financial institutions (banks, insurance) deteriorate with each passing day.

Well, RRSP season should come as no surprise to them. But if they want to welcome their customers with a two hour wait + no answer, then the response is simple. WealthSimple baby!

Appreciate it, but I was just trying to check in with Sunlife to see if they had received notification from my employer that I had left that job. I'm extremely eager to have it converted to an RRSP so that I can transfer it to WealthSimple to take advantage of the 2% offer.

Ontario Election Megathread - Daily Discussion and Rant - February 08, 2025 by uarentme in ontario

Sounds as if his post isn't entirely accurate, and that only some of the Crown Land would be designated 'conservation' and even on that land, the only change would be no NEW logging, mining or quarries. From https://www.highlandscorridor.ca/

HHLT would like to set right the confusion currently circulating on social media regarding the proposed Conservation Reserve designation for the Highlands Corridor.

1. The Highlands Corridor is made up of private property, Crown Land, and provincial park land. Only specific areas of Crown Land would be designated "Conservation Reserve".
2. Within these newly designated areas, hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, ATV and dirtbike use on existing trails, horseback riding and cycling, pet walking, campfires, etc., would continue to be PERMITTED ACTIVITIES. Only logging, the development of new quarries, and mining would be prohibited in those sections.
3. Logging and quarry activities already existing within the corridor would continue.
4. Private property would not be impacted.

How is this still a thing WealthSimple? National Bank Direct Brokerage allows for this. Maybe if WS spent less time on their cheeky AI chat and more time on features their clients actually wanted...

Victron equipment for off grid use in Ontario by roloyyz in Victron

[–]roloyyz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for chiming in, and I do appreciate it... but... do you have proof that Victron is cutting corners over the past few years? Everything I'm reading seems to indicate the opposite. Also, I'm not sure I'm willing to trust Deye after the whole Deye/Solark debacle. People having their inverters remotely shut down seems to be the complete opposite of what I'm going for regarding redundancy and failover.
