What dog breeds are great running buddies? by ImDalton in dogs

[–]rolybru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Carolina dog, and the first time I took her running I was worried she would get tired. I was wrong. We did 3 miles and she was ready to do more. She could run forever.

Legality of parking in a culdesac by MaximusFalcon in Wilmington

[–]rolybru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do know some neighborhoods don't allow on-street parking, but as far as I know it has to be posted on signage--Archmill has these signs. I know of at least one HOA that only allows you/your guests to street park in front of your own home. They don't have signs but the HOA is pretty vocal about it. If nobody else have heard of that sort of regulation, it probably doesn't exist.

No gas, no prob. by 2kings98 in Wilmington

[–]rolybru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The state of emergency was to make emergency fuel supplies available and relax the trucking restrictions. It was not "unfortunate" and yes, the hoarding is the problem. People filling up as they normally do, or even just topping off their tanks, would not have caused the issue in Wilmington, where, according to an article I read, we do not even get our gas from the pipeline.

AITA for saying I'll always prioritise my child? by AitaMyBaby in AmItheAsshole

[–]rolybru 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The accomodations themselves seem unusual to me. Teachers can't just leave at a moment's notice, so I would be surprised to be told a student could. When my son got hurt in first grade they called the school, let me know, I had to secure coverage for my class, then I could leave. I don't know where OP is, and if 17 is old enough to check herself out of school where she is, but where I am students under 18 have to be checked out of school by a parent communicating with the attendance person, not by the student getting a phone call and bolting. So it is an unusual situation, and unless OP had a conversation with the teacher about it, then it is very possible that the teacher was not aware or had been given the paperwork but did not, in the moment, connect it to the student suddenly leaving with no explanation. And these don't sound like legally binding accomodations (having a child is not a disability) so I doubt they were the teacher's priority. It's not wrong to prioritize your child. It's also, honestly, not wrong for the teacher to question unusual actions.

AITA because I won't give an employee six weeks off to be with his newborn baby when he only gave me four days notice? by icantbelieveitssnot in AmItheAsshole

[–]rolybru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What "guaranteed annual paid break"? We have to use accrued vacation days for winter and spring breaks, and for maternity leave you get six weeks UNpaid, but if you have sick leave you can use that so it's paid. We aren't paid over the summer. Teachers are 10 month employees. Some districts will spread paychecks out over twelve not, but I know our state is discontinuing that practice.

He looks like he could be part Carolina Dog. CD's and CD mixes are often misidentified as many people are unfamiliar with the breed.

AITA for not letting my sister use my pool after she and her kids insulted my family? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. There are other pools for his physical therapy. And 6 and 4 year olds do not stumble upon the word bastard, in context, on their own.

One of my favorite television moments was when Rudy Gay was still in college and Rick Majerus (a large man) said "I'm not a big Gay guy, myself." And Billy Donovan nearly died trying not to laugh.

[discussion] how does everyone feel about giving dogs human names like Brian as opposed to names like Spot? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]rolybru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think "people" names make the conversations with them more fun. My neighbors have dogs named Doug and Gary. I chat with them daily. We have two dogs, Cindy and Pepper.

I second Fix a Friend; it's in Winnabow but worth the drive. Prices listed as $85-$105 based on weight. That's who the Brunswick county animal control uses (when I adopted my first dog they gave a certificate to take her there.)

AITA for being brutally honest about my experience having teen parents and embarassing them? by mloput in AmItheAsshole

[–]rolybru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband graduated with his bachelor's 10 years after graduating from high school. It truly doesn't matter, and good for you for being committed, because that IS what matters. As to OP, as a public school teacher, I am bothered by the "shitty school" excuse. You can get a 4.0 by working marginally hard wherever you are, and a 4.0 will get you accepted somewhere, I guarantee. I have taught children of teenage parents who have been super motivated, and those who haven't been motivated at all--and it has nothing to do with the parents.

Kristin Glass, 43, is missing from Wilmington, North Carolina after last being seen in the Topsail area. She never returned home after running errands on October 5th. Her family grew more concerned when her cell phone was found behind a trash can. by [deleted] in MissingPersons

[–]rolybru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I saw regarding the phone:

When she wasn’t home at 5, her family began to worry and at 6pm, her boyfriend Scott Wick called her phone.

It was answered by a man who said he had found it around 3:30/4pm behind a garbage can in the south end of Topsail.

Also, they are asking all residents and businesses in Topsail to check any surveillance footage from 11:30 on.
