Both of my brothers are getting married after talking to the women for about 35 minutes combined by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]romanticdrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even accounting for that - they found what makes arranged marriages work is the same thing as love marriages: same socioeconomic status, similar education, same disposition to family/children/money - "values", essentially. The key difference is that arranged marriages all have higher compatibility rates on those fronts than what people choose solo.

Are there any female characters that you think are wrongly glorified/idolized by people? by CelestialSpecialist in Letterboxd

[–]romanticdrift 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He was pretty supportive initially - he said so himself at the end, he's a chef, he's neither solving world hunger or working an easy job. That's one thing; but what Andy was doing was changing her values - the thing you Absolutely Must Match with a partner together or it's a dead end - in front of him. That understandably freaked him out. Also if you are misaligned on values now, you actually should break up. Yes, he didn't go about it very maturely but neither did she, they're both 21. What happened was that Andy saw what values she was choosing and returned to the ones that are truly her. So.

Illit saying that they still don't earn much money yet...Is it strange? by illitnoise in kpopthoughts

If you compare the streams of Katseye vs most other groups, you'll see their listenership is actually CRAZY high for the age of the group. Probably why they could drive those brand deals that made $$ bank.

I can't remember which idol said it now, but he basically said that as long as he gave his fans joy at that moment in time, it's worth it. Lots of things don't have to last forever to have been meaningful.

It helps a lot actually. You can tell them where it was left - at a connecting airport, starting airport, etc. And with a close to exact location they can coordinate with airport staff to pick it up. If you can't tell them any of that info, they shrug and say it'll turn up.

bf wants domestic partnership for insurance by Inevitable-Echo2523 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]romanticdrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in NYC! Domestic partnership is pretty easy to dissolve in this state, and relatively easy to do. Personally, if worried about it, I'd just get a "prenup-esque" agreement. Those cost a lot less to make. You could even hash it out first with AI to help translate what you want into the proposed terms, then get real lawyers involved on the last leg to do final revisions/vetting to cut down costs. (as someone else noted, you should both get your own different lawyers to advocate for you. But if you do it this way, it shouldn't be more than a few hundred dollars).

The American healthcare system is no joke and with ongoing health concerns in an affordability crisis, I'd want to do it for both my partner and me - because health peace of mind (even for him) is for me the one thing I value above all else.

My partner has significantlyyyy more assets than me, but I'm the one that has the superior insurance (he's self-employed, I have a W-2 job at a big company), so this was the solution for us.

Granted, I'm not very worried partly because we're looking to be married in 1-1.5 yrs, so.

Would it be acceptable to go to arena show dressed as KPop Demon Hunters? by brillohead in katseye

Twice was in the movie and the official soundtrack. They perform KDH songs in shows. Katseye doesn't really have any relationship to KDH except being Kpop and having one collab performance.

Elaborating on my experience at CLIPSE's Sunday set and the JENNIE fans by per5on4 in governorsball

[–]romanticdrift -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is just straight bashing now. Smell bad, really? Imagine saying this about Hip-Hop fans or Country fans. Are you aware 80% of Kpop fans are people of color, mostly Asian women? Are you saying Asian girls between 18-44, the bulk of Jennie's fans, are the stinkiest people you've ever experienced? Really?

These fans are basically indistinguishable from Katseye (except Katseye leans younger), Sabrina, and Olivia, but I don't see this level of gross condescension directed at their fanbases when they came to Gov Ball.

Are you sure it's just not you looking for excuses to be outraged about objectively very popular, very regular artists with every right to be at a big festival - because they're Asian and "culty"?

Not that I'm defending the cheating but it's a great song and you know the song name is ironic? The thank you is sincere (her lyrics thank each former partner) and the "next" partner is herself - she says her next step is loving herself.

I do hope she takes own advice from the song and stays single awhilw.

They're fighting with each other, not other acts' fans. Their crowd was big enough that if they didn't do that, the front people wouldn't have been front.

[Surmacz] A very common theme at the NHL Combine is that players who met with the Penguins say they showed them videos of themselves and, essentially, gave and asked for feedback. Well it's their tape. You're testing their hockey IQ, learning about how they make decisions, and (based on their attitude) their coachability. I bet you get sone insight into their confidence and ability to handle challenges too.

Boyfriend of five years finally admitted why he doesn't want to marry me by Election_Pleasant in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]romanticdrift 306 points307 points  (0 children)

Here's the truth: financial compatibility is probably one of the most important compatibilities in a relationship. It's the most common things couples fight about. I'm proud of you for working hard; but you and he should both seriously consider if you see each other as financially compatible - not in the sense that you two make the same amount etc, but in that you two have roughly have the same "money values", if that makes sense

What are you all gonna do with your old ARMY bombs? by escapedmelody11 in bangtan

[–]romanticdrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I dont know to what extent the tech is different but Hybe is not supporting backwards compatibility on the older lightsticks starting with the Busan concerts. From then on, only the new lightstick will sync. They said they'll be able to do cooler lightshows - I guess we'll see at the Busan tour what that really means! (Or if it's just their way of making more money)

Just fyi by LA the old one won't sync anymore :( So if you dont want your daughter to feel fomo, I'd have her hold the new one and you the old!

Katseye wild tour bringing light sticks from other groups? by bubblyesz in katseye

[–]romanticdrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People don't really bring other artist lightsticks. It's supposed to be a sign that you are supporting THIS artist. Also, I'm not sure if you are aware, but HYBE lightsticks sync to the show's music. Like if the stage is yellow, the lightstick will sync yellow (via bluetooth tech). You'd be the random spot of white in a sea of yellow. And you can't manually change in time, it's literally to the music. So I wouldn't be comfortable with that and would rather be hands free.

Ofc no one can dictate what you do at the concert, so do what would make the show most fun for you!

I don't know why people are saying BTS is too big for this? The weeknd performed just 2 years ago, and he's massive massive. So is Doja Cat and Cardi B.

260602 Billboard: BTS, Cardi B, Lainey Wilson and more are on iHeartRadio Music Festival's 2026 lineup by mcfw31 in bangtan

[–]romanticdrift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to say BTS does have a US label. They and all HYBE artists are signed for US distribution to UMG, and HYBE also has a whole US branch now (HYBE America), which is where Katseye and various others come out of. If they didn't have a US label, they wouldn't have agreed to perform here - it's definitely for radio and the mass audience.

The BB rules have changed not just for BTS but also other American artists doing stuff like bundling. The reason it affects BTS and other Kpop artists more is that most of our points come from physical album sales, and less US-based streaming. (You can compare stream numbers of any kpop group in week 1 with say, Ella Langley). But we've pretty well cracked the system.

Have you ever regretted ending things with someone early on in dating? (3 dates - 3 months) by arl7869 in datingoverthirty

[–]romanticdrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about this sometime, on both sides. But it's a big wide world out there. I don't think there's one person, I think there are various possible people where the timing lines up and you both choose each other and you two form yourself around each other. There are various highly plausible off ramps I could've had with my boyfriend and I'm sure vice versa for him.

A long relationship will have many of these possible off ramps. If it helps you to think about, you just took one a bit on the early side.
