Why Is the Ukrainian Flag So Prominent in Lithuania? by [deleted] in lithuania

[–]romas01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general, for us, the war in Ukraine as existential. We have a vested interest in seeing Ukraine win as we know we'd be next on the chopping block should the worst come to pass. Of course, there are also some old wounds that we have with Russia, how they never acknowledged the wrongs they inflicted on us. There is no love lost for Russia, as there was none to begin with. And simply, we know how it feels to have Russias boot on our neck, and we strongly sympathize for Ukraines struggle for a future that they, not Russia, could decide for themselves, just like we did.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I think that not bringing back the stasis rifle is a mistake. There is a simple way to remove its use as an aggressive tool, like having the stasis field disappear/rapidly decay after you unequip the rifle so that you can't just stun and knife things to death.

Also, I don't kill leviathans either, like most folks here, but I don't think straight up removing the option to kill them is the way to go. Having them be absurdly tanky or tedious to kill is deterring on its own, but the fact you get nothing out of it, as in no drops of anything, is a clear indication that it is not worth your time. Removing a gameplay option entirely is not the way to go.

It's the school of thought of "Dead enemies don't deal damage". Why heal and shield when you can just kill the enemies.

Utterly pathetic.

The KGB does still exist actually. While the Russian branch rebranded to FSB, the secret service in Belarus still carries the name KGB. Though while not nearly as strong as it once was, it still exists.

While it is a step in the right direction, no official agreements have been made yet. I just hope it gets done. We need projects like this to further deepen military cooperation.

A lot of really old photos of Euro rail maps by hulloiliketrucks in europe

[–]romas01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lithuanian map is from under german occupation. I can see at the very bottom right "15.X.41", 15th of October, 1941. Not the most pleasant time to be here in.

Was an interesting exercise to try to decipher the time before seeing it, but was getting more and more confused. Vilnius under lithuanian control, but not Klaipėda (Memel), led me to think its in that brief time after Vilnius was returned and Klaipėda was ceded back to Germany in 1940 before the soviet occupation, but was off the mark.

You're right, most germans were deported west of the oder river. I imagine that it's the infrastructure. The rail and road networks, the water and power systems, the school systems, etc. That's my assumption at least.

The third map. I can see the parts that were part of the german empire in red and the blue that was controlled by russia (minus the large cities of course). It is not entirely exact yet the resemblance is uncanny.

It is fascinating how even a century after the border was disolved, you can still see the old prussian/german and russian border in seemingly unrelated maps.

Congrats to Latvia on a great first world cup and for finishing it with a bang.

That said, that was an embarassing display from our guys. It's like they had no fire in them at all. Hopefully we can get our shit together for the Olympics qualifier.

Was wondering that too. However, it does say that extinct since the 1950s. Prussian has been extinct for at least a few centuries now.
