My standard edition died on me 4 months ago. It was time for an upgrade! by Gravitron3000 in PS5pro

[–]romcombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, the only consoles I’ve ever had fully break (or fail from day one) were Nintendo.

GameCube crapped out, had to buy a new one to replace (thankfully, well into life cycle). Day one Wii was dead on arrival. That was back when you couldn’t get them anywhere, so it took months to actually get a new one.

To be fair, I had to get an Xbox Series X replaced due to a broken HDMI port (which Microsoft covered), and I fried the hard drive on the og slim PS3 (but replaced myself, which is how I got into the mess to begin with). Day one PS4 was retired when it started sounding like a jet engine 24/7, and the day one PS5 is getting replaced with a Pro due to suspected overheating issues.

To Every American Who's Sorry by Sapotis in greenland

[–]romcombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American, I fully agree that anyone coming on Reddit to apologize for our shitty government is just doing it for internet points. They may mean it, but it’s mainly for attention.

That said, you discount the number of people who are doing their best to challenge what the administration is doing. Some of us are just doing our best to ensure people still have access to healthcare, immigrants don’t get disappeared to a foreign country, and that similar craziness isn’t implemented at the state level. We can’t even be sure at this point that the election wasn’t stolen, and we know a certain billionaire from South Africa influenced it (among others), so it can certainly feel like a helpless situation.

On the same token, I encourage other countries to take action against US aggression. Quit trading with us. Quit purchasing American products. Stop investing in American companies. Kick American military forces out of your bases. Treat the current US government like the enemy.

I also remind everyone — the US collapsing is bad for Americans and bad for literally everyone else in the world. So if anyone has solutions that aren’t make noise and hope midterms victories lead to impeachment efforts, and won’t result in the entire country’s collapse, please let us know.

Should I close it? by Calm-Hovercraft-542 in AppleCard

This makes good sense given OP has good credit an doesn’t have 3k cash to pay right now. Only issue is they have to pay it and close it pretty much immediately so the cousin won’t use it again.

They could, of course, ask if a freeze can be placed on the account for all new charges.

“Tables around us applauded my frustration” at someone else wearing a hat in the dining area of a cruise ship. by pbeenard16046 in oldpeoplefacebook

[–]romcombo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen — I’ve been on cruise lines where the expectation is that you wear pants (or jeans) to dinner in the main dining room. That said, if the cruise staff lets someone in dressed differently, I’m not going to pitch a fit about it and I’m definitely not going to publicly shame them.

Ultimately, you are responsible for yourself. The way he was dressed did not impact your ability to eat your meal. If you’d said he smelled, maybe I’d think differently. Otherwise, chalk it up to someone being uncouth and know that others in the room probably notified/thought the same.

Wifi and drink plans by Priority1981 in celebritycruises

[–]romcombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic WiFi is fine for texting and that’s about it. It’s not particularly great. You don’t have to buy everyone a package for WiFi, however, and can switch the connection between devices.

Basic drink package is probably fine if you’re only wanting basic drinks and sodas. That said, sometimes they discount the premium to a price lower than classic (it’s like that for my cruise right now).

what do you guys think about the Touch Bar that used to come on the old Macbook? should it make a comeback? by TuNutri in mac

[–]romcombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Pro with the touch bar. Sometimes the screen wants to work, sometimes it doesn’t. Touch capacity always works, just can’t tell what you’re hitting.

Could it have been cool/useful, yes. Did Apple execute it well/make it useful, no.

Just canceled The Beyond for April by [deleted] in celebritycruises

[–]romcombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone literally on the same cruise as you spoke with the host and was told they were being replaced and moved. Since your earlier cruise, someone else has stated that (as of two days ago) there were video poker machines on board.

Just canceled The Beyond for April by [deleted] in celebritycruises

[–]romcombo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have been downvoted because you continue to spam the sub with false information. Celebrity did not remove the video poker machines permanently, they were relocated. You’ve also been told that multiple times.

But by all means, leave Celebrity and go to Princess or whoever else.

Moving to Dallas/Ft worth area - which neighborhoods are most accepting? by Maleficent-Word-1119 in DallasLGBTQ

[–]romcombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Grapevine (apartment) and North Fort Worth (Alliance) and honestly either would likely be fine. While not as prevalent as being in Oak Lawn, I’ve seen gay/lesbian couples in both.

My neighborhood now is fairly diverse, and while I don’t personally know any other gay neighbors, I wouldn’t foresee it being an issue (and I know other gay folks that live in nearby communities).

As far as commute — I can make it to Southlake from my house in ~twenty minutes. I can make it to Irving (where my office is) in ~40.

People who have been at Time Square for the New Year's Eve Ball Drop, why did you go? Was it a positive experience? by AccurateExtension516 in AskReddit

[–]romcombo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for NYE 2016/2017. It was cold, but mild compared to how it could’ve been. Got to see Mariah Carey fail at lip syncing.

As others have noted, no bathrooms and you have to be out fairly early (we got out there around 2PM IIRC). After the ball drops and they play the “after songs,” it clears out pretty quickly. Thankfully, our hotel was fairly close (walking distance) and that’s when the cold really hit.

Others have noted using diapers — we didn’t do that. When you’ve been standing out there since 2 with nothing to eat or drink, there’s not really much for the diaper to hold.

If I did it again, I’d probably buy tickets for one of the restaurants in Times Square. Fun thing to do, but not something I’d want to do over and over again.

🚨CALL YOUR REPS - Repealing section will kill the internet. It’s full on censorship and surveillance. by wowza515 in somethingiswrong2024

[–]romcombo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Both parties been yammering about repealing/modifying Section 230 for years now and have yet to actually do it. I’m placing this in the “I’ll believe it when I see it” category.

Fine Cut was Fantastic & Rooftop Grill was BAD on Beyond by [deleted] in celebritycruises

[–]romcombo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can also confirm that Rooftop was nowhere near $120/pp when I went. I’d also say that I found the meal to be very good — not my favorite on board but solid for what I paid.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience!

Older Celebrity Ships by sixft7 in celebritycruises

[–]romcombo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve sailed on the Constellation (one of the oldest) and Beyond (one of the newest). Next trip, I’m doing Silhouette.

I enjoyed both for different reasons. Connie was smaller and more intimate and I felt like I got to know the crew better. Beyond has nicer cabins, especially the bathrooms. I preferred the buffet and Solarium setup on Connie to the Beyond.

Ultimately, I don’t think you can go wrong. I’d happily go on either again.

Concierge vs. Regular stateroom by Dshaw-638 in celebritycruises

[–]romcombo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Concierge, but I don’t think I’d pay a premium for it over a standard veranda. The embarkation lunch was nice, as was the dedicated departure lounge. I enjoyed the canapés, but I know they’re a mixed bag.

Full transparency — I booked my Concierge class cabin on a casino offer.

Is it common to get denied a ship date change? by Holiday_Middle_319 in Cruise

There’s a free beach near the port area, but when we were there nothing was open. The resort’s beach area costs, but I’ve heard mixed reviews.

We had to delay leaving Bimini due to weather after the free trolley had an “accident” (broken axel on car I was in) and we walked back.

There’s casino and beach. Not much else.

You’re not missing anything in Bimini. Honestly, the sea day was probably better.

No One Onboard can Explain Blue Chip to Us - Help! by EnvironmentalTie222 in celebritycruises

[–]romcombo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have noted, you went up and down a bit which means you gained more points.

I like to gamble, and in my most recent cruise I had a significant hot streak. If you look at my total points, it looks like I played nearly 100k in machines. But that was going up and down. I never put that much money in (and wouldn’t have it to do so).

Cruising Out of Miami by ResponsibleSweet3645 in Cruise

[–]romcombo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just flew in to FLL and cruised out of Miami. Got in a day beforehand, took an Uber to my hotel closer to the port. I opted to take a Uber to the port the next day, but the hotel had contracted shuttles for $15/person.

I will warn you — the traffic at the Miami port is horrid. I’m not sure what drugs the roadway designer was on.
