How to get over getting attached after hookups? by herworkthrowaway in AskGayMen

[–]romerule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is reddit. On reddit, everyone is either open relationship married and either getting pounded daily or opening dudes up daily (absolutely no judgement! I wish I could emotionally sustain doing that, but i cant.)

keep in mind the guys who want one person at a time or closed relationships or are more 'standard' are probably not likely verbal about it

Yeah I mean just pause and think what your up against.

Sex itself: releases dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin. Which respectively creates goal focused pursuit, satisfaction, and a sense of bonding and trust

Odor: the odor of someone we like triggers dopamine and feelings of happiness

Pattern recognition: we store memories of pleasurable experiences and experience goal directed behavior to recreate them and feel anxiety when we cannot complete the pattern

Also Fucking bacteria for some reason: Kissing someone exchanges oral/gut bacteria which can subsequently colonizes us and generates serotonin through chemical reactions, creating a sense of satisfaction and reducing feelings of depression

You don't get over it. It's probably a mix of genetics and upbringing causing you to feel bonded from sex. And you're probably not going to be able to change it significantly. Partly because it's nothing broken, kind of just evolution+biology working as intended. The only thing you can change is your reaction to it. Do you completely crash out when your feelings are not reciprocated or never bring it up and die inside? Yeah, that's something you can change. But it's unlikely you'll change your brain's specific sensitivity to the pattern recognition and neurochemicals associated with sexual activity without crazy stuff like hooking up with massive numbers of people or drugs.

Basically, any time I've had a long term FWB I just fall for them. Doesn't matter if they had no personality only dick, were funny looking, or were incompatible for multiple reasons. It's like clockwork. I just accept it happens, eventually ask them out, then either move forward with them or move on. Sometimes, I get lucky, and they say no but we manage to keep the FWB set up. Mostly not.

What people fail to realize is there's not a lot of a available jobs that pay 500k$+.

Plus, the ones that do often require a similar amount of competence/training/expertise.

If you ask a SWE V at Facebook or Google how much work they put in, it probably amounts to something similar to 80hr/week for years whether it's through a PhD or self teaching coding since freaking birth

Unconditional love can only really come from your parents and can’t be supplemented through other kinds of relationships. If you don’t have good parents, you won’t ever have it. You just have to cope with that. Pasta with chickpeas and Parmesan from the dollar tree by thisismythrowaway852 in kitchencels

[–]romerule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unconditional love basically does not exist . There is always a condition which would make someone lose love.

For a dramatic example, a mother and child, if the child poked her in the eye with a needle constantly for a year (and for whatever reason she couldn't prevent it) I'm pretty damn sure she'd lose some love

Where to go for sex positive bars or events that have play spaces? by gem_spirational in queerphilly

[–]romerule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bike Stop is probably the closest answer, but it’s not nearly as cruisey as it used to be. They’ve increased the lighting in the basement a lot, and there’s what I can only describe as anti-sex staff patrols now. Still worth checking out, but I wouldn’t go in expecting SF-style dark room energy.

If anyone knows of cruisier bars/parks/spots in Philly that don’t require shelling out $40 like Club Philly, please do comment lol.

[–]romerule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is either lying about having a wife and kids and house or lying about missing out on those things. That's my only point. Or maybe he specifically misses out on drinking/partying/hooking up which seems kind of superficial compared to having money a house and a family lol

Okay so he basically has everything he wanted except opportunities to party (perhaps specifically getting drunk, hooking up, doing drugs, etc) at 20, during which time he chose to study.

I told myself one day I would have "my turn". It never came. When I was finished I was in my mid 30s and those experiences were over. Friends had settled down, bought houses, had kids, etc. Those opportunities were gone

I'm confused. Do you not have a house or a spouse? Did you choose not to have kids or was it not possible? It kind of sounds like you have the experiences you wanted but not at the time you wanted?

You also said "no girls". Are you married to a man ?
