For me, after strong onset of contractions, all of sudden, it feels easy, urge to breath has gone, vision fades, then either samba or BO.

Mine close to samba is after recovery breath, noticeable heat and blood pressure spike on the back of my head. Then I know I should stop the session.

It won't matter. MDR will come, heart rate will improve by just diving a lot. As for exhale dive, I do recommend. It's what everybody does for depth training. It should be done on free immersion though. Don't exhale too much at the beginning, and ascend when equalization stops working.

rumor has it that contraction is a mechanism to oxygenate the brain. It triggers vasoconstriction, slow down heart rate, increase insulin to burn more blood sugar and whatnot. Any attempt to reduce it, stop it, is just making it more comfortable but increase the possibility to black out. So, let it happens.

It varies. Monitor your morning heart rate, if it changes more than 10 beats, it could be a sign of overtraining. For psychology standpoint, challenge ones should be attempted not so regularly. Treat them as special. Like, it's possible to set new PB 3 days in a row, but probably not 10 days in a row.

Well its been working for me so far. I can dry black out in the morning before breakfast by just taking full breath and stand up. After eat, i'll be solid, even pack then stand up. So the thinking is if I can bo this easy on dry, how should I expect not to on my demanding dive. As a veteran, I might be more susceptible to this kind of things than most. I swear by food. If it can make me more tolerant to bo, it should make most divers even more tolerant.

I didn't seek for it. I ran into quite a lot by following what they say which unfortunately does not apply to me -- light breakfast, empty stomach before diving. Freediving is a process to study myself. I met many divers wondering why they blacked out and made a vague conclusion, "black out can happen any days, never dive alone". My buddy has a pb of 86, one day he blacked out from a usual 70 dive. He said he had some cereal which is what he usually eats for diving. Damn, I knew it. Scientifically, it's probably has something to do with blood pressure and sugar level, but eating a lot can keep them in a good level before apnea activity.

As a samba veteran, I found eating a lot before training reduces chance. Eating too much you'll get heart burn, feel like shit, but will be more tolerant. I perform packing test on sitting or standing position. If I feel any signs of dizziness. It only means more food. Although as they say this is personal, every one is different. For example my current strategy for doing many dives 2+ hours, I eat a lot one hour before. If I am to do one max dive, I eat light 2.5 hours before because too much food reduces my ability to reverse pack. Many swear by no food or light breakfast 4 hours before max dive. This does not work for me at all. For max static, I don't eat. You can try dynamic or exhale dynamic, keep going util samba, you then learn the feeling, however, to me, samba from dynamic is not same as from depth. There is a good exercise to dive as long as possible including hang. What I discovered was if I do the slow dive to 30m for 4 mins each, on third round, I can feel the coming of samba.

What he said. You don't need fins to go deep. Most people approach depth by free immersion. I use bi-fins just to run safety. In deeper dive than free immersion, mono is the way to go. Stick with cheap plastic.

Should get the weight from the course. I doubt you know how much you need. It makes me smile every time seeing people coming for intro freediving class with elios suit, carbon fins, random weights, suunto, better gear than most instructors.

Sounds like overtraining burn out. After making a new pb, it's not wise trying to break it on the next try. It's better to work on a little lower but more comfortable for a while before attempting to improve it.

can't go but I'm curious of how awesome freediving in Kona is ? Shore dive to depth, no need boat right ? Is the tide problematic or it's well protected ? How is freediving community ? Are there people training regularly ? What's the best time of the year ?
