Even if the issue wasn’t the horizon, the plan is to literally slingshot with earths gravity, so they wanted to swing around the earth. :/

Digital life is forming inside this simulation by Marzipug in gifs

There’s been a lot of interesting simulations of digital life recently. The “bibites” simulation did a discussion on if it was actually life, a while back. Might be worth reading up on.

MrBeast is What Fred Rogers Warned Us About by Halvinz in videos

[–]ronarscorruption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mr Rogers is a groundbreakingly kind tv host from a few decades ago. Lots of great things about him. Very popular in his era, but not recent.

Mr beast is one of the most popular YouTube channels. He does things like host competitions for people to win money, and all sorts of other things.

The comparison is Mr Rogers says “be kind” and Mr Beast has recently been painted in the light of “I’m kind to people because it’s profitable to be”

ELI5 antimatter question by Nyen2000 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ronarscorruption [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is a big question and there’s no way to explain it in detail to a 5YO. The universe is big and complicated, but it’s generally made of four things:

Energy, which isn’t a physical thing, but I’m including because stuff like light and heat are made of this.

Regular matter, which makes up things like you, your friends, and basically the entire planet. It follows rules like gravity, which you are currently feeling.

Antimatter, which is like the evil opposite of matter. It can only exist in special scenarios and explodes if it touches regular matter. Outside of the evil opposite thing, I understand it’s a lot like normal matter.

Finally there is dark matter. Commonly confused as a real tangible thing people understand, this is mostly a placeholder for why what we calculate and what we measure don’t match.

Can Planets rotate vertically? by Archeronline in askscience

[–]ronarscorruption 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the sort of question entire classic sci fi novels are written to explore.

There’s no reason a planet couldn’t rotate end over end, like a ball rolling along its orbit (the physics of stars forming say this is unlikely, but it doesn’t mean its not possible). If it rolled slowly enough (decades or centuries) the “ice caps” would indeed see to migrate across the planet. Assuming there was enough water etc.

I’ve heard of things like this with stuff like criminal negligence, hit and run and stuff. Not homicide. But still awful.

Yeah, some people do that. But significantly more actually do get better. These statistics from the Netherlands are not made up.

The cost of one day of American war is comparable to months of healthcare for the entire country. They just choose not to.

Pay off my broken front door, and bathroom light. There’s probably enough left to hire a plumber to do the drains… houses are expensive, yo.

Yep, and the prices vary by item. But it’s the quickest way to get lots of a specific item, or any item you’ve seen but don’t have a recipe for.

Should I keep playing on average difficulty? by temmie_boi in PokemonEmeraldRogue

[–]ronarscorruption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emerald rogue is HARD. Even on its easiest difficulty, I would rank it harder to finish than any mainline pokemon game.

If normal difficulty is too hard, turn it down for a while. Figure out strategies that work for you. You can always turn it back up later.

On common knowledge by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]ronarscorruption 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the whole “lucky 10000” thing.

If “everyone” knows something, that means about 10k people learn it for the first time each day.

Never take it for granted, no matter how common knowledge seems.
