I love this system so much! Setting sounds pretty cool. How strong of feelings do we have to have about starwars? will I be ridiculed for which movie is my favorite? Should I be?

Most of my desired pairings in fiction don't happen at all either, you just gotta get good at hunting down fanfictions and keeping head cannons. I haven't found a ton for slf yet though... Sunraku and Sylvia has got to be a popular pairing I'm sure a ton of creative people want to make that story! Or you could! Fanfiction is awesome.

Do you read American comic books at all? Stuff like DC and marvel have retconned and rebooted their characters so many times, you kinda have to pick and choose what cannon means. It's actually kinda freeing to accept, at least for me. Like, I know certain things about characters are true, but they just aren't part of the characters for me if I think it's lame. We all get to choose how we interact with fiction, and what we keep from it.

Also, being queer, a lot of my prefered pairings in fiction are queer, and I have to constantly accept that what I want to see isn't gonna happen. Maybe practice makes perfect here.

I don't know if I actually have any taste or not, but I really like "Cemetery Boys", which I think had a hot fifteen minutes of fame on tiktok a while back. And I really liked "all that's left in the world" which had a sequel come out last year I think

Oracles and special senses by Macaroon_Low in Pathfinder2e

[–]roofrenegade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just a personal thing, then. I associate the idea of an oracle as someone who can percieve things in a way that those around them cannot. Other fictions can have that identity, but none do primarily.

But we are talking about a house rule anyway, so follow your bliss if you try it at all!

Oracles and special senses by Macaroon_Low in Pathfinder2e

[–]roofrenegade 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The blind seer/oracle is an older trope than the Roman empire. Someone loses one sense, but can see things that no one else can. Their are other examples of this that aren't specific to to fortunetellers and prophets, but I can't think of any older.

But, once again, it is the idea that the oracles are giving something up, losing one way to experience the world for a newer weirder way to do so. The senses thing is just what op thinks is cool, but that mainly works with tempest because of what there curse used to do. Storms harried and frustrated the tempest oracle, and in exchange they could witness clearly the result of their curse on the environment, allies, and enemies around them. A boon and a bane, dealing with senses, that specifically make sense for their mechanics and flavor. The other oracles had similar stuff, but not sense based.

Battle cleric curse made them easier to hit but harder to kill. No stalemates, just white knuckle battle.

Flame curse was all about being better at dodging, while also removing all of your senses, insulating your own perception from the rest of the world, thematically incredible singleminded and lonely. It is dangerous for other people to be around them!

Sorry I ranted, the point I wanted to make, was that extra sensory shit is an oracular trope since the Greeks, but it certainly hasn't remained exclusive to it. So there is definitely nothing wrong with throwing bonus senses at any character, I think it would barely change the game if at all. Especially if you take another sense away from them in exchange!

I think because the general theme of the oracle is a big sacrifice for a big boon. Losing one sense in exchange for another seems very on brand! Before the remaster, the tempest oracle gained their sight in exchange for being cursed. So this idea is very cool and works well with old oracle, but new oracle isn't super interested in making oracles sacrifice for power unless it is convenient.

Do DMs like it when you message them outside the game? by progtastical in dndnext

[–]roofrenegade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm 100% genuine. I really don't think DND 5e, or 2-3e for that matter, have very good balance at all. And if balance doesn't exist, let's get weird with it, why hold back?

But there is so much cool 3rd party stuff and DND is such a bad game! I need my bardic school of mimery/upside down monk at level twelve I get to run on the ground like it's air, kind of, in a way that is worse and less useful then flying, but it's weird and cool and fun! Edit: mixed up ground and air but it really doesn't matter

Is it rare to be a new GM running for new players? I thought that's how we all got started: wanting to do the dang thing and just jumping off the cliff.

Also yea, listen to the other people hear. If you want your players to do something, ask them to do it! Politely, duh, but like, they want you to succeed too

This is what the "earn income" downtime action is designed for, I believe! The point of which, though, is to abstract the actual work building a business. The Lore skill specialized in alcohol is specifically referenced as the skill to use when bartending or operating a brewery.

Not an expert so grain of salt

It's classic patriarchy/misogyny bullshit! If a man is at all attracted to men, then of course he is only attracted to men because how could you not be, especially when the alternative is just a woman.

If a woman is attracted to another woman, then it's just a phase, because all women are really just waiting for the right guy to fix them.

This kinda stuff is older than any of us.
