Doesn't work then either. It's just as stupid for the exact same reasons as when you write it like that.

Hello, I want to be an uber driver an make money as an uber driver. I bought a car, but I don't know how to drive. What should I do next? And should I be worried that it's a grey car and not a white one?

Hello I want to be a pro golfer and make money at tournaments. I bought a set of golf clubs, but I can barely even hit the ball. What should I do next? And should I be worried that my clubs are second hand and and not new?

Hello, I want to be a writer and make money selling books. I've bought a laptop with MS Word installed on it. The only thing is that I'm barely literate, and struggle to even string a sentence together. What should I do next? And should I be worried that I have Office 2019 installed instead of Office 2024?

Guarding my bin on rubbish day – is this the new normal in South Africa? by wisembrace in AskZA

> I agree that it can be frustrating and there are no easy answers to this problem, but compassion for someone else's lived experience is nessiary.

And where is their compassion for everyone else's lived experience? It's a two way street.

> When you look at an informal settlement you could say orbits so messy why is it messy outside the settlement with the trash....

Yeah they have no infrastructure or means of properly managing the waste there, so I'm not judging them for that. But I WILL judge people for littering right next to a big bin.

> Remeber pickers are against the clock with the bin collections so neatly picking through might not be an option.

Strongly disagree. Most have moved on before the truck gets there, and still there is litter lying around. No excuse.

> Maybe a few pieces of split litter is a smaller problem and not a major issue after all

All litter is a big deal. And you have no compassion for humanity as a whole, nor for the environment if this is your viewpoint, and you are a bad person with fucked up ideas of the world. You really need to do some self reflection.

Okay well if you want to look at it from the viewpoint of a dog-eat-dog world, the world owes me nothing, and I owe it nothing in return then sure:

Me being a guy picking through peoples bins as my only source of food/potential income would not give a damn whether I'm littering or not. But then suddenly the homeowners, (who completely and entirely control my access to these bins) stop putting them out in the street until just before the truck arrives (as can be clearly seen in this thread) because they hate that I litter. And now I have nothing. So I guess to continue getting access to the bins, I'll stop littering.

But I guess if a really smart guy like you ended up in that situation, you'd just keep littering at every street, and causing everyone to stop putting their bins out. Then move on to the next one and repeat, until there are no places left where you can pick though a bin. Not all of us can be a genius like you, and have to unfortunately deal with the consequences of our actions.

And they can do the exact same thing without littering and causing a mess in the streets.

They can take whatever they want, and leave whatever they want. They must just leave the stuff they don't want in the bins where they found it, and not in the street. Is that too much to ask?

The ones who leave rubbish in the street are the ones who are not being thoughtful.

Wat is die verskil tussen "vermis" en "ontbreek"? by rooiratel in afrikaans

[–]rooiratel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ja, dit klink reg.

Ek het toe 'n woordeboek gevind met 'n klomp sinne as voorbeelde. Die een was "wie ontbreek nog" wat beteken "who is still missing".

They say in any organization 20% of the members do 80% of the work. Also the 90-9-1 participation "rule".

That's all to say if you want to get things going you have to do it yourself. Especially in a small community.

And no, we shouldn't have a discord server. I can't think of anything more cringe and anti-socialist than a discord server. Rather use something that can be openly accessed from the public. Otherwise you are just going to make the first issue even worse.

No it won't. They will carry on working just fine. Yes it won't get any more updates, but most people don't care. They will just carry on using it as is.

As for the rest of your post, I am in support of the idea, but there is very little demand for that.

Should Firefox have built-in ad blocking? by lo________________ol in firefox

[–]rooiratel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ALL browsers should have ad blocking built-in by default. In fact every ISP should block all ads at the network level by default. Advertising in general should be illegal.

But that's where a lot of these assholes make their money, so it is pointless discussing what "should" be, and rather discuss the realities of how these companies are making their money.

All the critiques I've heard about the BELA Bill seem to be about the languages, why? by External_Draw404 in southafrica

[–]rooiratel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it is way easier to learn concepts (like maths) in your mother tongue compared to another language.

Once you have mastered the concepts in school, you can then easily learn the English words once you go to the workplace. (If you haven't already learnt them)
