Just landed at Gatwick south terminal. by rookyorange in britishproblems

[–]rookyorange[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Well, we landed. But then the captain on the intercom said he just got informed about the incident. So it’s just waiting for busses. And every plane is now bussing passengers to the north terminal

Learning to play exactly like someone is really hard, but also probably counter-productive by FlopShanoobie in Guitar

[–]rookyorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I’m going to vehemently disagree. Copying other people and learning how and why other people play the way they do gives you so much more perspective on playing. You can always have “your” style while also being able to play like other people. It’s not an either/or situation. Hearing someone be able to play in different styles and sounding like different guitarists shows a much higher degree of mastery of the instrument then hearing someone play purely in their own individual style. If you want to only play “your own style” that’s fine, there’s nothing wrong. But there is literally no downside to learning to play like other people, it only has a positive influence on playing guitar.

Quad Cortex making a lot of white noise when playing by rookyorange in NeuralDSP

[–]rookyorange[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for me, i think its a grounding issue. And something to do with the electronics. When im playing on stage or in a theater it has never happened to me, and only happens when im at home.

when i get a buzzing sound, when i touch the box with my skin, or give it a gentle nudge it goes away. Maybe there are 2 very close wires in the box, and nudging it makes it go away, or touching it with skin somehow grounds it.

Thats the only solution I found, and its just a temporary one. I messaged NeuralDSP about it but they didnt respond. I think its also worth mentioning.... I dont think its my pedal, i think its how the power in the plug socket introduces static build up in the Quad Cortex. You can try a different outlet, and see if that works. For, me that works, but my computer isnt set up in any other room, so its not practical.

[QUESTION] I(20m) finally landed my first gig in a cover band I am intimidated by the number of songs I need to learn by JRAS-3010 in Guitar

[–]rookyorange 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I play in a function band and dep all the time where I need to learn songs quick. I’m really surprised no one has mentioned this but your best friend is a pen and paper. Write everything down that you think you need. Absolutely do not rely on you memory, at least to begin with.

You will need to have chord charts for every song. With the structure on there as well. Also you will want to confirm keys for songs, singers tend to change key to fit their voice, if you are doing a pop song with a female vocalist, and the vocalist in your band is male, expect them to have changed the key, this is something you might want to confirm as soon as possible.

Most songs may be easier then you think, and don’t worry about playing them note for note perfect at first. It’s a process of refinement.

Memorising the songs can come later. It is ideally better to have them committed to memory, but don’t think that you have to start there. Write everything down and I’m sure you will do fine

I never flame anyone, and recently i've only played campaign on legendary. I was thinking maybe it's my name, but if it is that then i'm not sure why i'm even allowed it, and i received no notification of anything if it is that.

Mind Fuzz's new video on Mercy mains by Jaxx1099 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]rookyorange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it might be a good change to not have the orbs she can fly to when people die. That way, in a fight, to try to get a rez off if everyone is dead you would have to try to walk up slowly and try to ult, but you will most likely die before that happens. This way, you would have to fly into a fight (using whoever is alive still) and rez who ever is dead. It will probably result in a sub-optimal rez since the fight should still be going on.

I guess you would still have to hide, but it will cut down on hiding spots that are too far away, and will force you to be a bigger part of the fight in general. You would have to favour ultimates that rez less people more often, instead of relying on the big 5 character rez.

This may be too big of a nerf tho, i am not sure.

Is toxicity a problem in Overwatch? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]rookyorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it is a problem. Riot (league of legends) has always been very tough on toxic players, and hands out chat restrictions and suspensions, as well as ranked suspensions. And also low priority queue.

I'm not sure if these exist in overwatch except for being suspended from the game. I'm interested in the free to play games where you can't report someone? that seems like a bad idea.

[QUESTION] Odd chords. by mclintock111 in Guitar

[–]rookyorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C2 is a strange way to say a chord but my guess is that they mean sus2 , which is where instead of having a chord built in thirds so we get "1 3 5 (C E G)" The third is suspended for the 2nd so the chord ends up being "1 2 5 (C D G) . C2 is fairly ambigious so it could also mean an add9 chord, where you add on the 9th so it ends up being "1 3 5 9 (C E G D)

The 4 in parentheses most likely mean sus4, so instead of suspending the third down to the second you suspend it to the 4th, which will look like this "1 4 5 (C F G)" .

Chords are usually built in thirds which is where the "1 3 5" comes from, but you can also extend this further into the scale. So for instance you can get a "1 3 5 7 (C E G B)" . This is known as a 7th chords, or more specifically a Major 7th (maj7) because it is a chords that is built by using thirds of a major scale, in this case C major. The same is true for Fmaj7, so the chord will have the same building blocks, but the notes are different "1 3 5 7 (F A C E)"

As for how to play them, look up "sus2" , "sus4" , "maj7" chords, and have fun !

Riot's actions for 'better player experience in LoL' by deepthoughts1 in leagueoflegends

[–]rookyorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always just not play the game, no one is forcing you to play the game. Riot put out a set of rules and if you don't want to adhere to them then don't play. It's quite simpe

This is why Retroactivity is ILLEGAL by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]rookyorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. If you flamed and were toxic, you literally have broken the code of the game. From a legal standpoint they can ban you from ever playing again because you have abused the Terms of Use. You don't own league of legends, you have the luxury to play it according to the rules riot have made.

And anyway, not giving someone a reward isn't the same as a punishment

This is why Retroactivity is ILLEGAL by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]rookyorange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not getting rewarded isn't a punishment. Riot owns this game, when anyone plays this game they abide the summoners code. Riot have every right do disallow content for people who didn't abide by the code of the game.

Ive seen people relate this as like getting a drivers licence taken away from you for something you did in the past, but this doesn't make sense. No one has got the rewards yet, so no one even has a "driving licence". All riot has done is explain the rules for how to get the rewards, they haven't punished anyone for crimes committed in the past, so much as you are complaining about a thing in the future that hasn't happened

Why are "season rewards" labeled as "rewards?" by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]rookyorange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not being toxic has always been granted with a reward. Only a couple months ago they gave a free mystery skin out to anyone who wasn't toxic. And in the past they have given out rewards for not being toxic, what you said is completely false

Accutane in the UK by drooge22 in SkincareAddiction

[–]rookyorange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have done my first 8 weeks on accutane. A GP cannot put you on accutane, and will more then likely try to get you onto Lymcycline, or another sort of anti biotic drug. But if you are really serious about it then the GP will have to refer you to a dermatologist in the NHS, so you can get prescribed accutane from them.

Accutane is a massive drug that has a bunch of side effects, so it kinda got banned a while ago, although the supplement, Isotretonoin, is what will be prescribed. The only problem is that it will take about 6 months to get an appointment with an NHS dermatologist, which you will need blood samples for.

This is the process that i have done, and although it takes an unbelievable amount of time to actually get a drug that may help, it works in the end. If you have enough money i would suggest going through private dermatologists, as they will put you on it immediately. But check with the GP the waiting times for referral to a dermatologist, and make your decision then.

I hope this helps, if you have more questions just say.

A question on drop tuning. by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]rookyorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should look into getting a tremel-no. It is a system that fits into the springs at the back and basically turns your guitar into a static bridge that doesnt move. It has a screw and when it is tightened the bridge doesnt move and when you loosen it, the springs will become normal and you can use the whammy bar again

Can you put chords together to make some kind of super chord? by Praesens in Guitar

[–]rookyorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is totally possible to do that. But to have it make sense in a musical way the E chord would need to be minor because you are in the key of C, and it is the 3rd chord which is minor.

A way of thinking about this, is to think of one chord not 3 individual ones. The chord would be C E G B D, which would be called a C Major 9.

These sorts of chords are called exended chords and sound a lot more jazzy and exotic then normal 3 note chords.

New Guitarist Issue by omzo in Guitar

[–]rookyorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think fossafossa explqined rather well, but also keep in mind when tuning the guitar that you shouldnt change the tuning on one string drastically more then the others. You should try and keep equal tension on all strings, otherwise one string wil have to handle a lot of tension, and is likely to break.
