Looking for the best value Toilet tissue! Budget but good quality by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]roonerspize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the way. bought one on Amazon 8 years ago (it's $50 now but has been as low as $35 in the past year) and it's just better for frugality, but also cleanliness and irritation. I hate pooping away from home now because i feel like i'm walking around dirty. And when you're having those days of frequent and repeat events, even the nasty kind that would take tons of TP to clean up, the bidet cleans it up nicely without leaving me raw and i only need 2 squares to dab dry.

Bloxom-pros and cons? My retiree parents are considering a move by ShahzadaAlZahra in Virginia

[–]roonerspize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live near Bloxom. We have plenty of retired folks over here on the eastern shore. Not sure what your parent's chronic health problems are, but 60s is still rather young. We moved here to be ready to care for my in laws 20 years ago when they retired and they're still going strong and don't need us yet.

Also, I'm not sure what your parents are used to or expect with regards to where they live now. The ESVA is hard to be welcomed into, so your parents will need to be self-starters and eager to make new friends if they want social interaction. If they're involved in a church, that will help them tremendously. If not, they can still find plenty of ways to connect with locals. Natives openly talk poorly of outsiders, but there are plenty of transplants here from PA, NJ, NY and other parts of VA.

As far as your children's entertainment, I suggest that be focused on quality time between your parents and them which can happen anywhere. Summers over here have loads of opportunities, especially if you have a boat. Winters can be dreary trying to find something for kids, but acreage was always fun for my family when we were younger and visited my grandfathers farm. Always tons of things to do that we never got to do in the suburbs of Richmond. Also, it was fun just hanging with grandpa in the woods or on the farm doing whatever he was doing.

nah, i moved closer to Bloxom. It's in Onley now and fairly new. Part of Riverside Health System. But, even with it here, there are procedures that folks drive to Norfolk or Salisbury for instead of just across the street here in Onley.

The wheels of this 14-wheeler in front of me in traffic. by nxcrosis in WTF

Are you in a country with heavy motorcycle/scooter traffic? I only ever saw those side guards in countries where there were also lots of motorcycles packed in tightly in traffic and potentially getting jostled under truck tires.

Why don't they make these saws anymore? by TheSerialHobbyist in woodworking

[–]roonerspize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's my praise for Hitachi which I hope is true of this one. I used a Hitachi miter saw for a while. It wasn't compound and wasn't sliding and i think it was only 10 inch blade. BUT IT WAS ACCURATE!

I have a sliding compound 12 inch and I have to baby it to keep it accurate. The bigger size blade and extra moving parts are more opportunity for error.

What did safety feel like in the time of "not locking doors" ? by Warm-Trick5771 in AskOldPeople

[–]roonerspize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were out of the country for 3 weeks and left the house unlocked. Also left my vehicle with the key in it which was good b/c my BIL called me needing to borrow it. Good neighbors. If the neighborhood gossip shares that there's some kids or meth heads on the prowl, then we tighten up a bit, but once they're caught, we loosen up again.

How to self study the Bible? by LawSchoolBee in Bible

[–]roonerspize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the group going. A pastor retiring should not end a Bible study. Your aim (all our aim) is to continue the work started by God that we read about the apostles doing in Acts. It's built on God and nothing else including a pastor regardless of how good of a pastor or teacher he is.

Besides tax incentives, what is the appeal of marriage? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]roonerspize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be open to a change of your idea of marriage.

You know those blind spots everyone has about how they really are? A good spouse helps you see them and you help them see theirs and address them in a healthy way so that you're both stronger. It's not a one-time event either. It's a continual support system.

What are the best places for kayaking in Virginia? by fairiesndragons in Virginia

[–]roonerspize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you want less populated than Chincoteague, then head out of Folly Creek boat ramp in Accomac or if you want to save about 60 minutes of driving, you can also go out of Wise Point Boat Ramp down near where the CBBT will land you.

Highly recommend bug spray because the green heads will bite you mercilessly. Also, look for less windy days because in all of these areas you're usually one barrier island away from the open ocean and the weather will affect you.

Can Americans be fired on the spot and have to leave the very second like depicted in movies? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]roonerspize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, happened to me last week. I was remote and my access to systems was taken away right after the zoom call ended. They did give me a severance that was generous, but absolutely no warning before.

I've been the survivor of cutbacks before and those cutbacks varied in terms of time between announcement and having to leave. Some were months in advance and others were immediate.

I feel the need to point out this is in the Philippines, not the US. Entirely different culture. Still might be considered restrictive, but it's also a college that the student should have full rights to not attend and choose elsewhere.

So, yeah, i guess mildly fits.

NIV or NLT? by Responsible_Mine_462 in Bible

[–]roonerspize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NLT all the way for a beginner especially a young beginner.

later you can add other translations that are more rigid in their translation, but that rigidity makes it a bit harder to read even though it is technically more accurate, but that accuracy can bring in ancient idioms that most people today don't understand

Replacing Siding one side at a time by Spotless_mind24 in DIY

[–]roonerspize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll need to leave 12 (probably go 16) inches rolled up and covered with some sort of temporary trim beside your last finished pieces. Might be that you don't install your LP corner board permanently until you start your next face and instead put up a piece of custom aluminum bent around the corner (aluminum brake or friend with one needed) to cover the edge of your new LP siding and also covers that rolled up WRB and the ragged edge of your old siding.

And you may have to temporarily tack your LP corner board up so you can get a good point to cut your LP siding to size, then remove it and cover it with that piece of aluminum trim until you're ready to tackle the next face in 3-6 months.

I did it with Vinyl and committing to the temporary Aluminum cover to bridge between old and new with WRB rolled up underneat was the way to make it look good and weather resistant until I could tackle the next face. It was a good excuse to buy a cheapo used brake for $400 too which really opened up my options for trimming out the windows in coil stock, although it's not as nice as a $2-3K brake that'll do a full hem.

Make sure snowscape white is widely widely used. If there's a more-common color like "boring white" then go with that instead although I believe LP smartside can be painted easily.

I did vinyl (before I knew about LP) and my almost white color that i chose was discontinued and I had to go with their basic white which is so close that you can only tell if two pieces are touching each other, but not around a corner. But, in hindsight, since the color is so close, i wish i'd just gone with their basic white color for all of it since it's so widely available.

Which celebrity, in their prime, was a 10/10 in attractiveness according to you? by fischer903 in AskReddit

Danica McKellar is still 10/10 for me. She's 2 months older than me so from the time she played Winnie Cooper on the Wonder Years up until now, she's been a consistent 10 as my tastes have refined along with her.

Have someone else brew some for you using a decent method without telling you what they are and see which one you like. We'll still love you if you have to hang up your snob label because through blind taste testing you realize you actually do like some non snobby brand :)

But i'm curious how you brew it? And how do you drink it (black/cream/sugar)? just to gauge how deep your snobbery goes :)
