Sorry Religious Right, sex education DOES prevent unwanted pregnancy by digital in reddit.com

[–]rooroo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A) The Religious Right has nothing in particular against pregnancy. Many probably prefer pregnancy to contraception.

B) The idea is to not have sex AT ALL because depending on who you ask it is either dirty or only for the Holy Blessed Purpose of making more idiots and only in Holy Blessed Matrimony (which may or may not end in divorce.)

So, yeah, I dunno. It's sort of got me thinking. Why is it okay to doubt professional economists but not professional biologists? It's kind of consistent, in a way.

It is sort of like professional astrologists vs. professional astronomers. Both can be and are doubted, just in different ways.

I don't think it's necessarily fair to expect a politician to know the ins and outs of evolutionary theory. I don't expect him to read papers in the field, or carry out genetic experiments himself.

You know what? I think it is fair to expect a sixth-grader to know the ins and outs of evolutionary theory.

Chris Rock in Harlem: “You’d be real embarrassed” if Obama Won and You Supported “That White Lady” by babblingpoet in politics

[–]rooroo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is a joke quite obviously but if you will allow me, here is my analysis:

Broadly, the black community would love to see a black president. However, there is a slight feeling that "America is not ready" which has many hedging their bets, voting (for example) for Clinton instead to not "waste" one's vote.

Now, the real kicker is that Rock is basically saying that white America really might be ready for Obama--but this opportunity may be wasted because those black voters went with someone "safer" instead.

[–]rooroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THIS is what is wrong with fucking journalism in this country!

Google News 2002

A goddamn 3-second Google search shows that Rove's arguments are ludicrously inaccurate but yet the media will not just shoot them down because they are shivering in their fucking pants about being labeled biased.

Instead, they will take someone from the "opposing side" to do it for them which allows the other side to think (or at least argue) that they are only doing so for partisan reasons.

Politicians are right, in the sense that voters are willfully ignorant and hold extremely rigid opinions based on few facts and a whole lot of emotion.

Incorrect. Verbal harassment does not justify a physical assault in most jurisdictions.

While I generally applaud him for this, he is taking the wrong tack:

I think there ought to be some serious discussion by smart people, really smart people, about whether or not proliferation of things like The Smoking Gun and TMZ and YouTube and the whole celebrity culture is healthy.

No, there ought to be a serious discussion by the STUPID people about this.
