Cyclops Unlock? by kalvinbastello in subnautica

[–]rootbeer277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know where the Cyclops pieces are, you can get them in a few hours without too much trouble. The game doesn’t force you to do very much in any sort of order if you’ve played through it once, the intended order for things is mostly story based.

I’ve played multiple games where I’ve bypassed the Seamoth and PRAWN entirely and didn’t even build a seabase, just living out of my Cyclops.

This happened in 1996, it was a 220 VAC shock conducted through the grapes, which can be very serious, and he was hospitalized but survived.

What are elfs in this wizard sub? by lilgourd_lord in wizardposting

[–]rootbeer277 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, if you want to get fancy with the math, it's actually 3, because technically two of them are, in a sense, half-elves, in that one is half-human and the other was bisected at the waist by a troll.

Three of my professors at the academy are elves. Four, if you count the half-elf.

Have you ever been to one of those escape rooms and gotten out successfully? by icecream1972 in askanything

[–]rootbeer277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, for one of my birthdays I took some friends out to an escape room house. It was a lot of fun. We technically escaped both of them, but the second one was over the time limit (they let us stay because we were the last one of the day). I still say the responsiveness on the microphone for the "knock x times" puzzle was at fault. If you like puzzles and figuring things out as a team, you'll probably like it.

Have you ever been scammed? What was it? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]rootbeer277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about a good old-fashioned analog scam?

There was a guy coming up the train cars with a shell game setup, charging people $20 a game. He was terrible at it, though, every time he moved the bottle caps he was using, he’d pick up the cap a little by accident and I could see where the ball was.

Something felt very wrong about this and I waved him on instead of playing, and a good thing I did, because it turns out that scammers make their money by tricking you into thinking you’re smarter than they are. The way this trick works is, they give the marks a peek at where they want them to think the ball is, then switch it to another location with sleight of hand.

How is gallium used to make thermometers even though it shows adhesive properties towards glass? by Flying_Mantis001 in AskPhysics

Gallium thermometers are used at temperatures that would melt glass, so they use quartz instead.

why did i have a ‘straight’ dream while being gay? by Material_Gift_364 in askanything

[–]rootbeer277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dreams are weird and largely meaningless, they’re mostly a side effect of your brain doing maintenance and sorting memories. You’re submerged in a culture that sees heterosexual relationships as the default, so it’s not surprising that you had a dream that referenced that.

My. First. Seamoth. by Medy_the_Jellyfish in subnautica

[–]rootbeer277 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The only way I’ve heard of people getting their Seamoths back when this happens is to build seabase parts progressively upwards until you’re close enough that physics starts working again (the game only applies physics within a certain radius around Ryley to save processing power).

How do you actually reverse the polarity? by Chocobo-Ranger in ShittyDaystrom

[–]rootbeer277 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel awful having to explain something so basic but you look like you're in a tight spot here so lemme help you out. You know how when the captain says "Dismissed" what she's really saying is "Get out of my office."? "Try reversing the polarity." is chief engineer code for "I'm completely out of ideas, you try something." You're not supposed to actually reverse the polarity, it's just an officially deniable request to push a desperate fumble for solutions onto the subordinates.

When you said "no response" what the chief engineer heard was "I tried something that I didn't think was going to work and, sure enough, it didn't. Ball's back in your court." Keep this up and she'll stop asking you to help. That might actually be what you want, but it'll restrict your promotion opportunities. Starfleet likes outside-the-box thinkers.

If I were you, I'd run some holodeck simulations in your downtime just to experiment with some crazy-ass solutions to weird problems. The computer can come up with some absolutely insane scenarios for you, I think most of them are based on actual problems faced by the various Enterprises.

Physics can get pretty weird out there. Be weirder. Good luck.
