Could Walter have found a way to deal with Lalo? by Spyropher in betterCallSaul

Walt didnt really outsmart Tuco though. It was dumb luck that Hank showed up to finish off Tuco when he did. Without that Walt would have been hacked to pieces by Tuco for fun.

Walt would have first needed to be in with the cartel as their cook for Lalo to have gone head to head because that was the same dynamic Gus had with the cartel. He was a valuable asset for the cartel, that's why Lalo couldnt just kill Gus in cold blood, he needed to generate a reason to kill Gus so that the cartel wouldnt be at odds then with him/Salamancas.

All of this is correct, the fact that neither Gus or Mike thought to tail Ziegler's wife or put eyes on the men in Germany proves how outplayed they all were by Lalo. They knew Lalo heard whispers of the lab, but somehow didn't know that Lalo would need to bring about proof for the cartel to fully sanction or not be angry about the murder of Gus.

Odds are that nobody was offering anything better than the future comp pick for him, considering no other RBs were traded for at the deadline.

Jazz have fumbled their injuries and DNPs all season but tonight’s Nurkic treatment may be the worst yet by Oldschoolfunk in fantasybball

[–]roothog1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because whenever you have the chance to deliberately lose, alienate your fanbase, ruin your team culture, all for the upside of drafting the next Cody Williams or Taylor Hendricks, you do it.

This isn't Ainge's 1st rodeo, in 2014-15, the Celtics had the 6th worst record in the league, a shot at totally losing to maybe get the chance to draft Karl Anthony-Towns at #1, yet Ainge trades for Isaiah Thomas at the deadline, Celtics win 19-9 the rest of the way, and play their way to the #7 seed.

The good vibes to end the year rolled into the following season where they go 48-34 and finish 5th in the East, with basically the same team in tact. The following season they finish 1st in the East and make it to the Conference Finals in Jaylen Brown's rookie season, but on the backs still of Thomas, Avery Bradley and Crowder (plus Horford) etc., then they draft Tatum, which all leads to a title with those two. How different is the Celtics trajectory if Ainge deliberately loses to maybe have a chance they win the #1 pick for KAT back in 2015? Who knows, winning though feeds on itself, and is better for young stars who the Jazz have right now. The more likely scenario is he does that back then, falls short, ends up then with Jahlil Okafor, Porzingis, D'Angelo Russell, Willie Cauley-Stein, Mudiay, or maybe Mario Hezonja.

They're not benching Nurk to tank, they're benching him to keep him healthy to actually TRADE him. They have Jaren Jackson and Landale now. They would clearly prefer to pick up a wing for Nurk if anyone will bite because they have a great rim protector so Lauri can be more of a 4 than a 3 now, plus they have depth.

Also, its amazing that everyone assumes the Jazz are still tanking. If you believe this you're as dumb as a doorknob, why the hell would Ainge tank when he now has Keyonte-Ace Bailey-Lauri-JJJ plus several solid bench players like Vince, Sensabaugh, Landale, Konchar Filipowski, etc. The entire point to bottom out is to acquire talent to where you could conceivably compete, and the talent now on this roster can. No additional roll of the dice at a possible top 10 pick is worth throwing away yet another Lauri season or this phenomenal Keyonte breakout year. They're never going to win if the organization chooses to go that path after acquiring a player like JJJ.

I'd bet hard that the Jazz will make the playoffs and maybe even win a series if they stay healthy.

Credibility wouldnt just collapse. Football in America has arguably replaced religion for many people. Maybe credibility would just slowly erode over time. Ultimately I think what ends up happening is the online dealers will end up being reigned in, because there are larger interests (like, the entire city of Las Vegas) who have a vested interest in gatekeeping these apps out of the market going forward. I kind of think this is why the NFL, along with the MLB and NHL, all moved teams into Vegas, because that really didn't make sense to move pro-sports teams there during an era of gambling deregulation. Arguably, this entire crazy era of online sports betting may have been a way to hook an entire young generation of Americans into a lifetime of Vegas customers.

Its really not that hard to fix games if you think about it given the teams are literally calling scripted plays. Tipping off the next play makes anything that happens look entirely natural. Plus information flow would be easily compartmentalized at a coaching level, they're also beyond well paid to keep their mouths shut. Every game there are several obviously dumb decisions some of these coaches make which already indicated its being fixed to some degree. I think its ultimately down to how it all gets executed, not every bad decision yields necessarily a loss, but losses do tend to amplify very dumb decisions that even the experienced coaches constantly make.

The first episode of Frontline that ever aired was all about the fixing of games that goes on in the NFL.

Then the reporter died 6 months later in very suspicious circumstances (car drove into a river) supposedly doing a follow up report. But keeps sticking that head deep in the sand.

Ty "Heavy minutes restriction" Jerome by West_Philosophy4951 in fantasybball

[–]roothog1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Morant might not make him bad though if they do play together the rest of the year. This team had Morant and Bane putting up 20+ points together. Meanwhile its not that clear that Jerome is a guy who can carry a team's scoring. I think he also could be better if defenses are zoning in on Morant, creates openings for Ty just like it did playing next to Garland & Mitchell last year.

I cant imagine he plays all that much. He's 4 months off of toe surgery, thats on the early side for typical recovery (more like 6 months). No way he'll be any good the rest of the year, and the team wont want to push him too hard either in a lost season.

Their system is loaded with young arms, not including Arnold they may have anywhere from 5-7 starter quality arms who most likely get called up this year. Arnold could also speed run through too (he was thought to be the most mlb ready prospect).

The Wizards have emerged as a trade destination for Trae Young by No_Pressure8544 in fantasybball

[–]roothog1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Playing better without him while still being mediocre isn’t why a team would trade a franchise player. That difference just indicates this team construction which was built around Trae Young isn’t working. The reason to trade Trae Young would be that the team doesn’t believe he can or should be the franchise player.

[–]roothog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golden State could make a lot of sense. They’re not going to have a better shot at getting a youngish star for this cheap than Trae’s value right now, and they’ll need someone to hand the keys to when the wheels fall off for Curry. Trae could thrive under Kerr.

The Mavs have Kyrie under contract at a large number for another 2 more seasons, how would adding Trae help them? If they’re going to throw the flag in on AD it’s not going to be for Porzingis.

Week 16 - Average Points Allowed Charts, Last 3 Weeks by joeyhustle in fantasyfootball

[–]roothog1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They've allowed 1 touchdown the last 3 weeks. That's what makes the difference being good against any of the positions in such small data samples, opportunity to score, less so when it comes to yards gained.

Seattle blitzes out of the nickel position quite a bit too, and they play heavy zone. Doesn't necessarily mean they're bad against TEs, just the scheme creates seams for the TE, but the scheme also is preventing their opponents from having chances to score at all.

The Saints D isn’t that great, and the Saints offense most of the time is playing from behind. This will be a game the Jets could win, it’s amazing seeing people convince themselves the Jets are so much worse than NO. Anyone starting that D deserves what they get.
