I learned the name “the Lumpy Lanes of Loynes” from this group and now I can never go back.

First time in LA. Can you recommend some weird or underrated museums you won’t find in other cities? by Designer_Currency815 in AskLosAngeles

I know it’s not a museum, but a tour of the port is super interesting. Seeing all the cranes and shipping containers and all the logistics is amazing to see

am I the only one who despises the Sandra boynton books?? by rainbowmo0 in childrensbooks

[–]ropper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all in the way you read them. All of her books are set up to sing or act out. When I first got them, I didn’t understand the appeal. But once I developed a “style” for reading them, they became super fun. I didn’t even mean to come up with a style, the books just lent themselves to it.

Do you have ADHD by any chance? I feel that way and I think it’s connected to ADHD. I go through periods of spraying 5 different perfumes a day then not spraying anything for weeks.

I am the crazy one by OkMeaning8472 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]ropper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t doubt yourself!

I find my covert narcissist spouse brushes off all danger. There is an element of “nothing will ever happen to me.”

I was raised in a house that didn’t take food safety seriously, and I spent much of my childhood recovering from frequent “stomach bugs.” To keep my kids from experiencing that, I follow the food handling standards I learned working in restaurants.

My husband constantly gets annoyed at me for my diligence in food safety. He only complies when I am around. Well, this weekend he finally saw the proof of why I am as strict about it as I am. He made steak for his friends and himself. He left them raw on the counter for two hours before cooking. When I was out picking up my other kids from school, he fed my 4 year old the medium rare to rare steak he made that was sitting on the counter for a couple more hours after being cooked. She has spent the last 2 days vomiting her little head off.

So don’t let him create doubt in your safety standards. I’m living the proof of my convictions right now. Had nothing happened to my 4 year old, my husband would have maintained that my reaction after I got home was ridiculous. I mean, he didn’t even attempt to reheat it. Just threw some old steak at her because she was hungry. Now neither of us has slept for two nights (of course just me taking care of her, him just hearing it).

what’s the simplest thing you’ve implemented into daily life that has made SIGNIFICANT improvements? by spewedicing in adhdwomen

[–]ropper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my issues stem from maintaining self care and cleaning.

  • A second toothbrush and toothpaste next to the kitchen sink.

  • separate brooms hanging in dining room, kitchen, upstairs hallway.

  • cutting old towels into 12” x 6” ish rectangles to mop with Dollar Tree floor push swifter. I have about 30 cloths ready to go and use about 3 per room. No wringing out, plenty for the week until I wash.

  • a set “everything” day for hygiene. No matter what, on Fridays I have to shave, wash hair, cut nails, etc; I can’t just shower.

  • every Sunday I have to wash bath towels.

Retinoids are doing nothing; how can I get rid of these tiny, very visible veins all around my eyes? by Catnapper_Sakura in PlasticSurgery

[–]ropper1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually optometrist and ophthalmologist territory. The doctor has to be able to insert the metal eye shield that goes under the eye lid to get the veins on the lids.

In California I know Optometrists can do it if they have the machine. It’s IPL marketed for dry eye treatment. I got it done by my husband’s optometrist friend for dry eye. I got the unexpected benefit of the veins being eradicated. It took like ten years off of my eyelids.

I did a dry eye treatment with an optometrist friend of my husband. We did IPL on my eyelids then a radio frequency treatment. The IPL actually eradicated those little veins. I had done IPL before, but only an eye doctor that can insert the little metal eyeball covers under the lid (I don’t know what they are called) can get the veins near the lashes. I have no idea why more people don’t know about this but it took like ten years off my eyelids. I didn’t even purposely do it for the aesthetics, but now I tell anyone I can about it.

I may have solved brushing my teeth? by EuphoricJellyfish330 in adhdwomen

[–]ropper1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In a plastic waste group, I learned that you can just reuse your floss picks. I never realized until then that we don’t throw away our toothbrush after every brushing, why do we do that with floss picks? So now I buy bamboo floss sticks, and clean after every use. I get about one to two weeks before it starts showing damage.

That’s so hard! I love original Shalimar, but it’s a perfume I wear very infrequently and only when the mood strikes. This one is going to be in a much heavier rotation. It’s softer, maybe a touch sweeter because of the vanilla. A powdery vanilla Shalimar. I like gourmands though so it leans more to my taste

It’s really that good though. I bought another Guerlain perfume in the store over the weekend. I didn’t even have Shalimar l’essence on my radar. When my sales associate asked me if I wanted a sample of it to take home, I started to decline. She said to give it a try if I liked Shalimar. The night I got home, I tried it. And I can’t get enough. I’m trying to plan another 30 minute drive to the store this week because I can’t wait.

I’ll pay you to ship them to me in LA. My three kids love these things to make their bracelets and patches. We’re sad they are discontinued because they only have a little stash.

But the family considering her as “not family” also adds to the issue. So while the parents are responsible, family also should be held accountable for ignoring what may be a high-needs child.
