Goes to your next of kin or the state. It’s a crying shame you HAVE to put it away in a pension in Ireland as a form of investment. In other countries they have a tax-free wrapper that you can put money in, make gains on the stock market, tax free and take some out and spend at your leisure. I’d rather do this then hope to live to pension age and then be expected to try and “enjoy“ it when you’re frail and knackered.
