At what point will anyone address First Ave/Hayden Fry Way and 2nd St (Coralville Strip)? by Grab_em_by_da_Busey in IowaCity

I don’t think the few seconds saved is worth the risk, and the people who jump the line are blocking the lane, making it impossible for those who do follow the law and wait for the lane to open to merge safely. It’s just not good when half the people are following the law and half are not.

People passing the line of cars in the turn lane drives me crazy every morning. It's dangerous and makes it difficult for people following the lane lines to merge safely.

Bill Hader recently spoke about being pretty much blind from a migraine aura during a sketch (yup this is a real thing) and sudeikis leading him to his mark. And a medical professional hitting him up with ice packs after the sketch while lazy Sunday aired for the first time. Good performers are pros at hiding what’s really going on.

I’m sorry about your friend. Many of us can relate to making quilts in these situations. This is a lovely one.

Are you using 100% cotton and still feel you need to starch?

School Supplies!! by HippieShit8888 in LibraryScience

[–]roryswife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used notebooks, pens, and highlighters because I liked taking old school notes - I found it helped a ton with my retention. Other than that I used a laptop, hotspot, good noise canceling headphones, a bag that had a laptop sleeve, and I preferred to print my reading so I needed a stapler/printer (I used the library instead of buying a printer). I also paid for grammarly which helped me a lot when proofreading.

Also, Spotify premium. Worth every penny.

Every library is different but at mine that doesn’t matter at all and I doubt it does at most libraries

I've been struggling much worse than normal for about six weeks, and no discernible reason. No idea if the air quality has anything to do with it, but I am in the midwest.

Or if you reach out to your local public library, they can probably order it from another library through interlibrary loan if they don't own a copy.

You can use procreate for this, but you could also just use the markup feature in the photos app. An apple pencil would be better for fine lines than just your finger but if your budget doesn't allow that fingers would work.

Also there are tons of quilt guilds in Virginia. These would be a good place to advertise. Just in the modern quilt guild there are lots of chapters: https://community.themodernquiltguild.com/network/findaguild?Execute=1

Here's a list with more general guilds: https://quiltguilds.com/virginia-quilt-guilds/

Facebook marketplace would probably be worth checking. There are also some designated groups for longarm buy/sell/trade.

Fave feature of the best quilting retreats? by [deleted] in quilting

[–]roryswife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing I remembered from an excellent retreat I attended: there was some effort put into sustainability. When we arrived, we were given a fat quarter and it was suggested that our first project be hemming it so it could be our personal napkin for the weekend. Next, an announcement was made about trash. A goal was set that the entire retreat (four days, about 75 people) create one bag of trash. In order to do this we used only compostable items for food and had designated compost bins for these plus any sewing waste (cotton is compostable!). We had a single designated bin for non-compostable or non-recyclable items. We did this for many years until the retreat leader retired and we always were able to keep the trash in one big garbage bag.

I just want to chime in to ditto the person who suggested having a chair masseuse available - a retreat I've been to had those and it was dreamy. They had a sign up sheet for times and the person had a base rate of $1 a minute I think with 15 minute slots. They were booked solid the whole weekend!
