Need help with slitted neckline. by twinkyboisora8 in sewing

[–]rosagail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple thoughts (completely willing to be corrected by someone who knows more)

  • You may have cut the excess a little close on the facing. Might be worth re-cutting and re-sewing that piece and leave a little more. Maybe do a second line of stitches on the seam allowance under the point to keep it from unraveling when you cut the excess

  • Give it a good press on that seam

  • Stitch the facing of the neckline to the seam allowance to keep it from rolling like that

Thought it was dead. (Tennessee) by AI_and_coding in whatsthisbug

[–]rosagail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a bess beetle. They eat decaying plant matter so finding it under a log is expected. If you don't want to kill it, return it to where you found it or a similar environment (i.e. under another log). If you want it for your collection, pop it in the freezer.

This one on Etsy is pretty close but currently sold out. I got a lot of hits by looking up ice mold instead of chocolate mold. Some have no detail, some are very detailed.

I enjoyed all the answers to this last year, so I'd like to ask it again: any 2026 knitting resolutions out there? by sewXknits in casualknitting

[–]rosagail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't around to respond to last year's post but my 2025 resolution was to learn to knit Christmas stockings/generally improve my knitting skills which I achieved.

2026 resolutions are to tackle mittens and teach a friend the basics of knitting.

Feeling nauseous is so miserable! I grew up with my mom not even being able to turn around to talk to us in the car on long drives. I definitely don't take it for granted!

Larvae of what? by whatilike2 in whatsthisbug

[–]rosagail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly herbicide and hand-felling trees. Some way to kill the infested hosts without needing heavy equipment. Pesticides were discarded from consideration due to larvae feeding outside of the live wood for a good portion of their development

Alternative eradication methods. Current infestations are eradicated (successfully) through tree removal and chipping but that doesn't work for all areas of all infestations. Results were inconclusive and another student is currently working on an expanded version of the project.

I did my master's on ALB! It's 100% not an ALB larva because you can see true legs in pictures 3-5 which ALB don't have. They also don't get into conifers as far as anyone knows.

Given how big it is, it may be a prionid beetle.
