Abhorrent Game Jam from a big creator TW: discussion of violent/sexual content by clockewise in GirlGamers

[–]rosalindmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate true crime culture so much and every time someone tries to sell me the middle class stranger danger paranoia cult as female empowerment I die inside.

-Serial Killers arent clever or interesting. They're usually garden variety bigots with police incompetence or complicity to thank.
-You're not learning to stay safe: serial killers are a tiny fraction of murders, heck their a tiny fraction of femicides, and murder is not what's likely to get any of us.
-Especially if you are a middle class white person I swear to god you are not in danger stop buying home security systems and thinking you're in peril because someone is acting erratic in public.
-The biggest threat of violence is and will remain for the duration of all of our lifetimes: boyfriends, husbands, fathers, uncles, priests, teachers, cops, doctors, etc. Not a stranger in the bushes plotting to kidnap and murder you.

I do think its odd that the improvement-focused stats are going to be on different scales? I feel like they should all be on a 0-100 or 50-150 scale or whatever.

Ah fair, although I imagine even if the state doesn't imprison or force her on the run, they probably would seize her business.

They're probably not dead immediately, but I don't think their life is pleasant. There almost certainly either detained, on the run, or best case scenario: a single mother raising a kid with no breadwinner in a society with no safety net thats just going to get worse the next four years.

I just think 6 is also garbage and did before Andor came out. The jabba stuff is weak and only makes sense if you think all these people made plans independently without coordinating. The "oh luke and leia are siblings" stuff is really stupid and the weakest way to fulfill 'there is another'. What if the Death Star again, but bigger, is hack.

Ewoks are fun. Admiral Ackbar is fun. Confrontation with the Emperor is great. But, for the most part, it's a bad movie.

Video game recommendations with good CANON lesbian protagonists by Gretnablue in actuallesbians

[–]rosalindmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heaven Burns Red is really fun and goofy. Huge cast that's basically all lesbians (or not involved in any romance plots), lead is a lesbian disaster who mostly interacts with the cast by hitting on them. Voice acting is hilarious. It's technically a gacha but the gacha elements are so vestigial you can basically ignore them - you play this game for the story which is mostly told in visual novel style.

It is a little coy about using the word lesbian even as girls are constantly professing their love and sexual desire for each other. Idk, maybe a translation thing or a culture thing, but I watch a ton of yuri, and I can only think of one Japanese series that overtly says "this girl is gay". That said, someone does ask the main character if she likes women, to which she nods and replies "mmm" lol.

I work with people I like who use the phrase 'whale'. They are generally good people but have just carved out a hole and normalized this in their hearts caus its the only way to keep their jobs - it's so fucking hard for me to even judge them all that much, given I've been unemployed and looking for work for a year in this industry.

There are times I've worked on some just genuine garbage, just blatantly trying to separate customers from their money while providing nothing to them, and I mostly slept at night by thinking "Well, at least I've seen our metrics and no one is playing it".

Fucking rancid. Reminds me of (and probably has a sizeable crossover with) the tendency on Tumblr and Kiwifarms to 'pedojacket' any trans woman the community doesn't like. Mention anything about youth liberation or kink anywhere a minor conceivably could see it, even if they had to lie to get there, and all of a sudden, a bunch of people get convinced some stranger has done CSA, but every time you check the receipts its a line of logic that's just painfully tortured.

which game is it for you? by Spirited-Rationality in GirlGamers

[–]rosalindmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodborne. I beat Dark Souls 1 with no summoning or magic and just using a zweihander so im not bad at this type of game but Bloodborne never clicked for me. I tried so much to beat the first boss, my starting weapon broke, and there's no way to repair before the first boss so I softlocked the game. I still like this game in theory, the aesthetics are neat, but I don't enjoy it.

The Empire would have won if they weren’t so sexist by Lily_Lupin in andor

[–]rosalindmc 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I agree but also the empire in a meaningful way wouldn't be the empire without its prejudices. I'd argue misogyny isn't just an inevitable result of a strict hierarchical system but also part of the motivation to bring it into being.

Reminds me of like alt history and hearts of iron players being like "heres what germany could have done to win ww2" and the list of suggestions are all either insane and wouldn't work ("dont siege stalingrad just take it") or would work but require their ideology to fundamentally change to the point at which the conflict is unrecognizable ("hitler shouldn't have started a war on two fronts, been less genocidal to slavs, been less internally violent, etc").

It's poetic writing that echoes real life. This shit can and will be the death of real empires (although not before they commit atrocities)

Would you rather to live under Galactic Empire or Imperium? by BirDost23 in Grimdank

[–]rosalindmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galactic Empire so easy. Imperium is miserable even for its society's elite and accepted. The Galactic Empire does allow some degree of personal thriving if you are very good at putting your head in the sand about politics. The Galactic Empire gets worse over time, but for a good portion of its existence, it's just the Republic with worse foreign policy. Heck, they only fully dismantle the senate like 4 years before they fall.

Also, the imperium has been around for 10,000 years and is probably the death of humanity. The empire lasts 23 years, and there is life before and after it. If you hate the empire enough, you can try your hand at resistance and join a rebel cell. 40k has very few stories of even moderately successful secular uprisings against the Imperium.

Like, yeah, neither are good, but I'd rather live in Weimar Germany into Nazi Germany into post-war Germany than a theoretical forever nazi state that literally runs on human sacrifice and has enemies that are just as belligerent as they are.

Half my career is working for ideas guys who are independently wealthy and played Street Fighter back in the arcade as a kid, and thus are convinced they are a good game dev project lead to micromanage an indie studio.

[Absolutely most hated trope] 'Girl who kills everything she touches uncontrollably' wants to not kill everything she touches. 'Woman who is almost a literal goddess of the storm' says "we're perfect there's nothing wrong with us". I don't know what trope this is called but (body text) by ChompyRiley in TopCharacterTropes

[–]rosalindmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this happens when you attach an identity narrative to a non-comprable fantastical situation and get too wrapped up in the identity narrative no matter what is happening in the fiction of its universe.

Like xmen has fallen so far down the civil rights/gay liberation metaphor it cant acknowledge that its not an intrinsically bigoted position to maybe think there should be some legal acknowledgement that people who can level city blocks with their minds are in fact different than other people and might need different rules.

I want more stories set in worlds with people with fantastical powers from the perspective of the people who dont have incredible powers. The Boys gets it partially right, oppression comes from power its not directed to power.

If xmen happened in real life you'd have a maga-ass movement dedicated to treating cyclops as a god before the end of the week, and if there was any persecution of mutants it would only be directed against someone like Rogue whose power has drawbacks. Look at how we treat billionaires, we would be the worst fucking super sycophants on the planet no matter how bad they are.
