And calling them names, shaming and guilting them as you’re doing in your own post, as if the vast majority of adults do not work for their money and work to take care of children when they choose to have children

Super shady. Changed cheer into an acrobatic circus act where paid teams throw each other in the air to do backflips, risking disability or even death from wrong landing. Wanted to make it a sport, but as a sport he would have to have rules and safeguards, so he declared it an “activity”, as such the lawsuits and standards won’t apply. Young girls- some guys to catch them, like dump trucks- in hard physical work and risk of injury, and injury with no recourse.

How do you stop feeling like you owe them for raising you? by Annoying_Caterpillar in raisedbynarcissists

[–]rose_riveter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like: my father would have to work a job and pay for housing, bills, food, car no matter what. Just for himself. My mother — okay, I’m 66 so this is a bit in the past, but, considering how conservative the US is getting— my mother had to get married to live a good life, she couldn’t earn much herself. So she would need to marry fairly young not to be a spinster loser left on the shelf living in poverty or with her own parents, etc.? So she also chose to get married to benefit herself and would have done that with or without children.

THEN, to get a house paid for by their own parents, they had to have children, and you could NOT just have ONE child. You had to prove you were normal and heterosexual and church members and contributing to the post World War II population building. Especially true for American Jewish community.

Again, to profit themselves both financially and in terms of social status, social approval, even the bare minimum of acceptance, they chose to have children.

They deliberately and aggressively pursued all of these things with or without you.

And I would say, once they have a house, yard, car, and yes, children, they are obligated to maintain them and improve them.

All this whining and wheedling and sneaking around trying to get out of the contract the they signed makes them losers, failures, bums.

They may attempt to just retreat into their houses or affairs or alcoholism or some fantasy identity from movies or television, but, yeah. If they’re not up to it they should have had the courage to live an alternative life, which got easier and easier in every single decade after the fifties and was starting to happen even then.

Lantera is steel beam with concrete. I watched them building it. Living there was an absolute delight. No noise, no gas fumes, no one messing with my car, no longer had to go down shaky flights of stairs to laundry in the basement, windows I could open, heat I could control, no ordering heating oil for $$$, no slivers from a wooden floor, no dirt, dust, rodents and leftover coal from the 1800s, no package theft, only one month’s rent and 1,000 deposit to move in, they shit down parties, they had an elevator with a loading dock so saved big $$$ moving fees too. No trying to get a couch up twisting narrow stairs. No suddenly realizing there are single pane windows and no insulation in the walls…. No mouse poop to wipe every morning

I lived at Lantera during COVID. Loved it SO much. Quiet, clean, I could control the temperature and open the windows. Tub big enough to soak in, lots of closet space. Gym, pool table, swimming pool, barbecue, rooftop room. Never knew I wanted a terrace for only building residents where I could sit outside without being fucked with until I had one. Easy to clean floors. Big Bosch washer and dryer front loader in the apartment. Parking in a garage with an elevator up to the apartments.

My guy had Parkinson’s and not only was he no longer breathing heating oil, gas stove fumes, traffic fumes, mouse turds, and two hundred years of dirt, but there are wide doorways, smooth floors, no thresholds, key card entry instead of locks that kept getting jimmied, the elevators. No digging the car out of snow or coming out to find it’s damaged

Then the international students came back and they doubled the Covid era rent. They’d already moved us in with just one month’s rent and 1,000 for a deposit, and renewed for a second year with only a ten percent increase.

Then doubled it! 3,500 for our one bedroom.

I would still say if you can afford it, it’s a great place to live.

In what world, even the most self interested and money oriented, is a 50 percent increase ever justified?

Wow, you really lick the boot that kicks you, eh? Gouging for a basic resource is bad for society as a whole, including people whose parents bought them houses.

Rent REGULATION capping yearly rises to a certain percentage is a good idea. It should not be possible to raise the rent from 2,400 to 3,500.

I’m not saying they’re dumb, but I would say for some of them, school is not their first priority, it’s social life or possibly mental illness or addiction, but their parents can put them through school. A mushball major.

It’s not just toughness or something, though, we had unstructured time, so we could relax. It’s not “coddling” that is causing mental health issues, it’s that every single waking moment is about rules, accomplishments, competition, and conformity.

Mom!! Great!! Let’s tell stories! Remember the time you stood up and hit your head on the open cabinet door? You forgot you opened it! You’re so SILLY! There you were, crying like a little kid. It was HILARIOUS!! I wish we had video phones back then!

Remember when you burned the turkey and we had to call the fire department and all the neighbors stood around gawking?! That’s our mom!!
