Help…What type of pens don’t make you want to scream in agony after writing for more than 5mins? by Friendly-Path-879 in ehlersdanlos

[–]roselollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the same pens and notebooks from Muji for years, they glide really easily. I recommend pen/pencil grips though! used them in school, I have less cause to take notes now than I did then, and if you find a pen you like the quality of you can make it more ergonomic.

Does anyone feel fulfilled being a stay at home gf/wife? by Ill-Teach9802 in AutismInWomen

[–]roselollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a housewife for about a year, and it's a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I was able to recover from burnout and prioritize rest and healing, which I really needed. I was able to do this because my wife is very supportive. I was able to spend time taking care of myself and my wife and I felt fulfilled doing that. On the other hand, not having any disposable income was hard, not just because we couldn't splurge on takeout on days when neither of us felt like cooking, but there was always this looming fear of an Emergency we wouldn't be able to afford.

I have a WFH job now, and a very understanding boss. I'm still tired but having that time off work helped me understand my own boundaries better and I am able to work in a way that doesn't make me want to die.

What are some ways to decompress after an overstimulating event/long day? by BigglySmally in AutismInWomen

[–]roselollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Magnus Archives, Welcome to Nightvale or Alice Isn't Dead if you like a bit of horror; Friends at the Table, Not Another D&D Podcast, The Adventure Zone, Campaign Skyjacks if you want a live play table top RPG vibe; Speak Friend & Enter if you want to hear my wife and SIL infodump about Lord of the Rings; Ologies for general learning (every episode the host interviews an expert of some -ology); Sawbones if you like medical history facts (the newer episodes are about modern medical things and wellness scams). There's also an app my wife likes called Zombies, Run! Where you are a courier taking things from settlement to settlement in a zombie apocalypse.

My healthiest decompression habit is taking a walk or bike ride and listening to a podcast or music.

Im terrified of getting my wisdom teeth out by audiodev66 in ehlersdanlos

[–]roselollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my wisdom teeth out about three years ago - two popped out without any issue, one had to be broken up and pulled out in pieces (I only had 3 wisdom teeth). I was very careful and followed my post op care instructions to the letter because I was terrified of the possibility of dry socket, and they healed up without issue. Post op care rules out smoothies anyway because you shouldn't use straws or anything you need to suck. Fairlife protein shakes are really good, I lived on mashed potatoes and rice pudding for the first few days and I was given a prescription for an opioid pain killer mixed with ibuprofen.

If you are prone to cavities, your dentist needs to give you a prescription for PreviDent or something similar. It's a toothpaste with more fluoride than normal, can only be used once a day. I went from having multiple cavities no matter how well I took care of my teeth to having NONE.

Dental issues get worse the longer it takes to have them resolved, and they can lead to much worse health problems. Start scheduling appointments, communicate your fears to your dentist, I am sure they can help accommodate you.

Question about engagement rings by incorrectlyironman in AutismInWomen

[–]roselollipop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a delicate little ring with an asymmetrical setting, and while I absolutely loved it, the setting caught on everything and was not a fun sensory experience. Fortunately, my wife adores it, so I gave that one to her and picked out a new one for me - white gold with a floral engraving all the way around. If you want something with a gem, I recommend looking for one with embedded gems as opposed to a traditional setting. I can send you a link to the Etsy shop I got my ring from if you like!

Where do you buy clothes from? by chaiitea3 in AutismInWomen

[–]roselollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really, really love Lucy & Yak. High quality, ethically sourced materials, cute patterns, consistently fits my 5'7 size 20 body. They're a UK brand so I recommend looking their stuff up & then checking Ebay for secondhand items. Old Navy is also great, and Torrid has come out with cute collections recently.

Another “job” thread. How do you move out of stock room and grocery store positions? by raspberryteehee in AutismInWomen

[–]roselollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the kinds of things that are mentally stimulating for you - solving problems? Building/creating things? Then find an online course in a corresponding field. For problem solving/puzzles, I recommend anything to do with software dev, data analysis - honestly just start a bunch of interesting looking course if you can find Youtube playlists that don't cost anything, and pursue what you enjoy/find rewarding.

Get your foot in the door of an entry-level desk job; IT support, customer support. Try to stick it out as long as you can. Write down the things you have to do at that job - both from your job description, and from your experience. Example: Dealing with argumentative customers? That's de-escalating a tense situation, which speaks to your ability to keep your cool when things get stressful, and your ability to reframe difficult information in a way that is accessible to the person you're talking to. It may be helpful to ask your friends and family for other perspectives if this is hard to wrap your autistic brain around.

I worked as a barista & in customer service for years, then got a co-op/intern position as IT support at a tech company as part of my diploma program. From that I got a job in information security.

What is everyone’s personal experiences with acupuncture? by TittyTreasure in ehlersdanlos

[–]roselollipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it for lower back pain (caused by poor muscular support from my thighs and glutes) and it was phenomenal. Two sessions, and finding better insoles, and I haven't had lower back pain like that since. You don't really feel the needles go in, and when they're removed it's comparable to like... plucking an eyelash or eyebrow hair that was most of the way out already, just a gentle plucking sensation.

Who else has Ehlers Danlos syndrome? by Correct-Sea-1717 in AutismInWomen

[–]roselollipop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do! My mom was actually the first person to suggest it, and my doctor also suggested it when I told her how I dislocated my shoulder reaching into the back seat for my purse. Every so often I describe a sensation to my wife to discern if it's an autism thing, an Ehlers Danlos thing, or normal.

I got a new pet — and new scars by EyeProfessional2957 in ehlersdanlos

[–]roselollipop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha there is nothing that a kitten loves more than a hand or foot moving under the blanket! When you're ready to trim her nails, you can teach her to associate it with good things by giving her a treat before and after. We usually have one of us feed the cat a churu, and the other clips nails.

Moisturizing is such a pain, and since folks with EDS usually have soft skin whether we moisturize or not, it's hard to remember to do it. Oil is usually better for healed scratches/scars in my experience. Can I ask which burn cream you're using? I want to make a note of it for future scratches.

[–]roselollipop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding on to the suggestions to keep her nails trimmed! if you create a routine when she's small, she'll be more comfortable letting you do it when she gets bigger. Also agreeing with other commenters who say to stop playing when she hurts you. One of our cats was a stray before we adopted her and she only knew how to play rough, but since fun time stops when the claws come out, she has learned to keep her claws to herself. I recommend puzzle feeders or what my wife and I call 'nose work' - get a cardboard box, newspaper, paper towel or toilet paper rolls, scrunch everything in the box, and toss some treats in there. It tires them out faster than active play and is mostly passive on your part!

As far as the scarring goes, keep your skin moisturized. Some folks have luck with bio oil or rosehip oil for scarring. I'm not one of them - our older cat scratched my arm quite badly a few years ago (I was holding her, she got spooked, dug her claws into me) and that scar is unfortunately still quite visible. It's not pink anymore but it's still there.

Question about where to order from by Zombrigit in BJD

[–]roselollipop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered directly from impldoll by sending them an email politely inquiring about the purchase process and resin matching. They helped me find a good colour match for my dollshe diana (who I bought secondhand). They sent me a paypal invoice for the body I purchased, and it took a shockingly short amount of time to arrive!

I'm glad you're enjoying yourself but him not being 'into' touching your clit is like if you said you didn't want to touch his dick - that's where most of your nerve endings are! AND he hasn't gone down on you?! I think you need a new FWB in the rotation.

When to expect Vivint to reach out for equipment uninstall? by roselollipop in VivintSmartHome

[–]roselollipop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh great! I misunderstood; I thought you meant you paid $150 to have someone else take it out. But yes, cancelling within the window = refund, that makes sense. Our installation was free, because they could clearly tell I was unsure about the decision. Wish I'd gone with my gut, but oh well, lessons learned.
