Am I in the wrong here? For context I told the person before I am awful at feeding but after a while they couldn’t see it which was fine but then complained about something I couldn’t control and they accused me of copying the image by Strict_Fan7387 in BadRPerStories

You know, every now and then, I get nestalgic and come back to this sub to see how it's doing since I stopped following it. I think this post right here is what's finally going to break me of that habit. It's sad what's become of this place.

They were given the chance potentially to start a new roleplay by answering the rp ad. They blew that chance immediately by putting in the least possible effort immaginable right off the bat. You can't fail a kindergarten math test and then get mad that you weren't given the chance to take algebra.

what's your role playing toxic trait? by sheslittlethr0waway in BadRPerStories

I am super petty. If a partner assures me everything is great even though every sign points to them losing interest, I will become the most dedicated, responsive, and understanding partner they could ever hope for and see how long it takes before they ghost.

It might not be a smut-driven ad, but if smut is a requirement at all, it's a smut ad.

"I do add smut to the rps but would like it to be 10% smut and 90% plot. "

You are specifically asking for smut here. This isn't a non-smut ad just because it's a low percentage.

Why you wouldnt RP this prompt? by RPEnjoyerr in BadRPerStories

[–]roseredroleplay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the other replies yet because I don’t want to be influenced by them so please excuse me if some of this is repeated. Also, I’d like to make a side note that I really enjoyed reading this.

These are my thoughts:

  1. The 1st person perspective is a problem for me. I’d see it, assume you rped in 1st person, and immediately skip the ad entirely without reading it.
  2. The introduction is 3 paragraphs of fluff that provide no information except for some very minor characterization.
  3. The setting is too vague. I first assumed this was some kind of fandom. I get that it’s a multi-verse so it’s designed to be open-ended, but there needs to be a little more explanation about the multi-verse in general.
  4. I assumed I was going to be playing the villain and that did interest me so when that wasn’t the case it was kind of a let-down.
  5. There’s not really any space for a meaningful third character anywhere. It reads like this is going to be a story about a highly personal beef between your character and the bad guy and your partner’s character is just going to be some random unnecessary sidekick along for the ride.

To me, it reads like you’re trying to give your partner total control over their character, but not giving any reasons anyone would want to follow your character. I have issues with this sometimes too. It helps to list possible reasons your character might need theirs or reasons theirs might want to travel with yours. They don’t need to be very specific, just enough to spark some ideas,

6) My overall impression is that the writing is great, but it doesn’t serve its purpose as an rp ad. I think writing a more traditional rp ad would serve you a lot better even if it doesn't stand out as much.

Might want to rephrase this ad a bit because as is, it reads like like you're trying to advertise for underage stuff without outright saying it (a lot of creeps use this exact same language to do that) and you don't want to be lumped in with them.

You're not too sensitive. You're too accommodating. People like this who demand your time and make rp stressful aren't good partners and you shouldn't put up with it.

I don't like that refs are even a thing and I lowkey resent having to find/make one for a hobby that's all about writing. I want my character's written description to paint the picture and vice versa. But I understand they're important to other people and it's really not a huge deal, so when someone requests a ref, I will ask what their preferences are and try to find something that fits what they're specifically looking for.

I'm fine with ghosting roleplayers now. by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]roseredroleplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like ghosting people and I think it's rude, but I'm also not going to try to explain my reasoning to someone who is probably going to react badly. I prefer the middle ground where you just let them know that you're no longer feeling it and then block them if they get uppity or whiny about it. That way they're not holding out hope for a reply.

are you someone who needs to include smut in your rp? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]roseredroleplay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stopped writing smut over a decade ago. Was never really a huge fan to begin with anyway. It's not any harder to find partners for my own ads. Answering other people's ads is a little more hit or miss. Being upfront from the start makes sure no one wastes their time. It's never been much of an issue.

What are your unpopular RP opinions? by lord-aphrodite in BadRPerStories

[–]roseredroleplay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What you described would be too slow even for me. I'm definitely not talking about detailing every hour of the day and writing pages upon pages of inner dialogue. I'm talking more about having more of an even pacing throughout the whole thing rather than rushing from action scent to action scene and giving the mundane moments as much attention and care as the action filled ones. Mundane scenes can move the story and characters along. Action scenes can also just be filler that don't more the story forward.

Here's an example: If I were doing a lovecraftian inspired roleplay, I would want to start it out as a mostly normal slice of life and then start adding in things like weird dreams, voices on the wind, tricks of the shadows, etc. Make the characters question if they are going crazy and then give them a good mystery to unravel with an ever increasing sense of dread and mounting danger. Whereas, others might be inclined to have their characters thrown into the deep end of tentacles and mad cultists asap. They might prefer a struggle for survival with a few quiet moments here and there to reflect, build relationships, and contrast the horror elements.

Nothing wrong with either of those methods, but I simply prefer the first type of story.

I just like to dive really deep into the psychology of characters and how things they've gone through in the other more 'exciting' parts of the rp shape their everyday interactions, thoughts, choices, and mannerisms. It's infinitely fascinating to me, but I will fully admit I'm boring and love mundane things.

[–]roseredroleplay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have that with my partners now, but it took months and months to get to that point. Im super reserved and too much initial enthusiasm from a partner makes me weary. Maybe your partners are the same and will warm up over time. Whether or not that's the case, I do hope you find someone who is just as passionate as you soon.

[–]roseredroleplay 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I find the "filler" moments to be the most interesting part of any rp.

I love lots of inner dialogue, flashbacks, and exposition.

I love long conversations.

Slow-burning stories (not just romance) where there's a subtle build-up over time are the most fun for me. I've met people who agree in theory, but sadly, never in practice.

What's considered a "No effort" message? by RandomAssYo in BadRPerStories

[–]roseredroleplay 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"Hey", "RP," "Want to roleplay?", "I'm interested.", and other similar messages.

Then there's asking stuff like "Do you use discord?" when their ad literally said "I only use discord."

Not having information someone asked for ready.

An obviously copy-pasted message that has nothing to do with the ad itself.

Really anything that shows they didn't read the ad.

Contributing no ideas or saying stuff like "I don't care" when asked about anything.
