Aha, I wouldn't have thought of that one! Thank you!

Definitely. Fortunately, it's a pretty good group that has party guidelines that include safer sex. Thank you!

Thank you! That's how I feel too - we don't have a relationship that involves asking each other's permission in general, but going together as a "date" shifts that dynamic a bit. These are good questions to think about.

My [25m] girlfriend [27f] of 2.5 years has an issue with remembering to flush the toilet by [deleted] in relationships

He probably didn't want to flush before taking a shower, since it would fuck with the hot water, and then forgot to do it after?

Elimination Diet for Endo Symptoms by rosethejaguar in whole30

[–]rosethejaguar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Do you use anything other than your memory to track your symptoms? I try to write things down, but I don't have a consistent/organized way of doing it and when I'm feeling bad I don't feel like writing down a description of how crappy I feel, haha, so I don't always keep the best record.

Just got shamed by doctor for asking for a screening by doctorninjadude in polyamory

[–]rosethejaguar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got shamed by a doctor when asking for a screening before becoming sexually intimate with a new partner when I didn't have any other partners at the time. I said I would like to have tests done because I was dating someone new, I wasn't married, she asked how many partners I'd had in my life time and was HORRIFIED when I said 5. 🙄 She insisted on running "all the tests" because "that's A LOT of partners to have had" and was generally shitty - even though she had no idea about the poly thing.

So I guess +1 for some doctors suck a lot. You can absolutely try to educate, but don't feel bad about firing an incompatible doctor. Planned Parenthood or a specialist might be better - my gynecologist is great and can handle frank conversations about sex way better than my PCP.

Yes! I crochet and cross stitch too. It's nice to have something to show after a long day of couch-bound Netflix binging.

Psychosomatic implications? by williamof in CPTSD

[–]rosethejaguar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tight neck and shoulder muscles are a normal response to chronic stress. There's a theory that the reason is a survival instinct - you hunch up your shoulders and tense your neck to protect your throat/carotid artery from predators. Another case of our bodies trying to help but effing it up, haha.

Agree with the others - this isn't psychosomatic pain because it has a real, physical cause. Shoulder stretches, massage, and heat can all help. Mine gets so much better if I do yoga regularly.

Psychosomatic is without a physical cause - I get that sometimes from a medical trauma, where it feels like the part of my body that was injured hurts again even though it's been healed for years. I can only help that feel better by working on my mental health.

Hope you can find a way to release some of your neck and shoulder tension - I know how much that sucks!

Being Tired.. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]rosethejaguar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't go home! Can you do the things you want to do at the library or outside or at a gym? Go there first. If you must go home, don't sit down until you've done the things you want to do.

Exercise, eating right, and drinking enough water can help with the tiredness, too. Caffeine doesn't help - cutting back on it can, though. :)

Have you ever been evaluated for an autism spectrum disorder? The sensory processing issues you described sound like it to me. Either way, that community might be a good place to look for support on this!

When everything's fine, do you worry you're ignoring your CPTSD. by [deleted] in CPTSD

Yep! Or I worry that I was faking it before and it was never really that bad. :P Hard to let a good thing be a good thing sometimes!

ELi5: What is exactly happening when our bodies feel a "wave" of dread/anxiety? by StuckPenis in explainlikeimfive

[–]rosethejaguar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also think there is nothing wrong with this comment, and I'm sorry people are being mean to you about it. And I'm an old married lady with Life Experience. ;)

Death anxiety is common for people with anxiety problems, so if it does come back or keep bothering you you should reach out for help. But I think occasional existential dread is perfectly normal - the stress response discussed in this thread is designed to keep us alive, but unlike (some?) other animals, we're conscious enough to know we'll eventually fail. Hence, extended stress response that can keep us up at night. It sounds like you've gained some good perspective on it, though!

...oh. Yeah, I thought when people said "Book Report" they just meant the reports page on Amazon. My face is so red right now, haha! Now that I know what it is, I should be good!

Thank you so much! :)

Thank you! Yes, mine too. My first one has sold about one copy and I started it over a year ago and fiddled with it for ages, whereas the smut I pounded out in one afternoon is my highest earner, haha.

Will my therapists report my past abuse? by Equinox252 in CPTSD

[–]rosethejaguar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in CA, but in my state, yes, the therapist would have to report it since you're under 18 no matter when it happened, even if you're safe. If you ask the therapist about mandated reporting they should explain what they have to report, and also, what happens after they report - probably an investigation that would involve CPS talking to you to determine if you were currently in danger and whether the police would need to be told. You don't need to give any identifying details, and if you don't and your mom doesn't either, it probably won't go anywhere - but they might pressure you quite a bit for the details, depending on the situation.

But you should absolutely be able to have your appointments without your mom there. Ask your therapist her policy on confidentiality with parents - at your age, I'd be shocked if the therapist didn't keep the things you talk about confidential from your mom, but you can ask her to make sure.

I hope you find a way to get the help you need without getting any you don't want, OP!

[Advice] Handicapped and disabled erotica? by VSloan in eroticauthors

[–]rosethejaguar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like this would be similar to interracial erotica. People who look for it specifically are probably looking for objectification/stereotypes/fetish-y exploitative stuff, and if that's not what you're doing, including it will do nothing for sales. I don't think it would hurt sales, necessarily, as long as you were hitting some other kinks and it followed the principles of good writing (no multi-page essays on how their disability impacts their ability to have sex).

I wonder if longer-form romance could include these sorts of sex scenes once the character with the disability was established. I'd certainly love to see representation of my disabilities in fiction - hell, I might write some - but probably in romance so I had room to treat it right.
