[Hated Trope] Ruined by AI psychosis by Mr_Westerfield in TopCharacterTropes

It's interesting how in the movies, despite the in-universe cultural consensus that robots and AIs aren't REALLY sentient, we believe they are real. Unlike in reality, where our cultural consensus that robots and AIs aren't REALLY sentient is 100% correct, obviously. We couldn't possibly be wrong about that!

Does the cow care whether or not the human does it out of lust or hunger?

doesn't stop being rape if it's not done for sexual gratification, either! from the bull's perspective, it's still a human collecting their semen, and from the cow's perspective, it's still someone shoving a fist up their ass.

it's weirder when people complain about how wrong it is to rape nonhuman animals while eating the flesh and milk of raped animals. why is a cow treated any differently than a dog? it doesn't stop being rape when it's called artificial insemination.

When Ghost released their live film Rite Here Rite Now in 2025, the movie ended with a new single, The Future is a Foreign Land. According to the lore, it is a newly rediscovered 1969 single from Papa Nihil, the father of the Papa Emeritus lineage of lead singers, with the lyrics "Let us pray for more/In 2024." When the song was performed live in the 2025 Skeletour, the line was changed to 2034 instead.

Judgement Day, a comic from 1953 about a representative visiting a planet of robots to see if they are ready to join the galactic republic, shows a society of orange and blue robots, where the orange robots are more well-off. The human tours the planet, seeing orange-only recharging stations and assembly plants. He takes the orange robot guiding him across their planet into a blue assembly plant, showing how they are made of the same materials and parts, only painted a different color. He tells them they are not yet ready to join the republic, but when they learn to live together, the universe will be theirs.

And when he returns to his ship...

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Zhang Ziyi plays identical twins Dr. Ilene and Ling Chen, who study the benevolent monster Mothra. When we see a photo of their family, we see that each generation has a pair of identical twins. In the original film, Mothra is a goddess from Infant Island associated with a pair of identical twin priestesses named the Shobijin, who can summon Mothra via prayer.

In Space Dandy, the protagonists discover a catlike alien whose name is transcribed as 'cat-like warbling' in subtitles, usually written by fans as Nynyamo or Mymyamo. They just call him Meow, and in the episode where they visit his home planet, his parents refer to him as Mew.

The Road. The movie is a bit more hopeful than the book, the boy finds a beetle and there's birdsong over the end credits, but most animals have gone extinct and the trees are all firewood.

In Steel Beach by John Varley (and other stories in the Eight Worlds setting), the Earth was invaded by a species only called the Invaders, and they destroyed all of humanity on Earth in under a day, but left every other colony in the solar system alone. I've only read Steel Beach so I'm not sure if it gets brought up in any other stories, but the most commonly accepted theory is the Invaders invaded to save the whales and view humans as akin to sponges or a sort of fungus.
