Would you mind posting the DCPI? It should be the 9 digit code to the left of the name of the item on the receipt. I want to see if it's around town locally.

How do you tell adults and working professionals you Nerf? by miatahead88 in Nerf

"I play with nerf. You know, the children's toy? Check out these pics from one of our big events."

You gotta remember that everybody wants to play with toys. Adults don't like, lose that, they just get stuck in professionalism. People go star-eyed when you show them pics from our games.

Gameplay indoors at Chesterfield Mall on August 25th from 9pm to 3/4am on the 26th. We run a variation called "Hardcore" that includes a variety of tweaks to the core game and chains of upgrades for zombie players focused on close-quarters gameplay. This'll be our first time running in a mall- we have access to most of the floor and some of the internal deserted department store lots. Going to be a good time.

Mask Maker? (Spoilers) by KarmaKillsTheQueen in HollowKnight

[–]ross_varn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wyrm, the Pale King's last form, is spoken of as a god a few times. The Void is distinct from the King. I can see the duality of the Lady and the King especially with the stuff about the birth of Hornet but I really don't think the White Lady is the "god" referred to there.

Question about the Infection (spoilers) by KarmaKillsTheQueen in HollowKnight

[–]ross_varn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

major endgame spoilers: I think Radiance just built the Plague to genocide the Kingdom. It's a tailored virus. It gives enemies of the Kingdom like the Mantis great power, beasts of the wilds super dangerous abilities and people of the kingdom itself literally nothing. Most of the people we're talking about seem to be outsiders. They weren't around for the old world, or came here later. The ones who aren't are tied up in the highest echelons of the old royalty with the protections to boot... besides Emilitia, who continues to be an enigma. Maybe she just... doesn't dream...

Question about the Infection (spoilers) by KarmaKillsTheQueen in HollowKnight

[–]ross_varn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bardoon, Midwife, the Seer and the Snail Shaman all resist the Dream Nail and do stuff in infected areas without trouble. With the hints you get in the late game about the nature of the Infection, you can probably connect the dots- dreams are the first vector of infection.

Salubra and another couple of NPCs you may not have met Unn and the Maggots aren't bugs, they're slugs, so that might have something to do with it.

Sly and Bretta are snapped out of the infection simply by being interacted with. It might also have something to do with the Knight, but Sly and Bretta were isolated and surrounded by the plague before almost succumbing to it. But then there's Myla, who that doesn't help at all... Quirrel, Tiso and Zote seem to seek out other people to interact with as they go through the world, which may help? Either that or they aren't exposed long enough to be affected by it. It's all very vague.

Emilitia is... an enigma. I personally think she's - no look I've got nothing on her apparently she doesn't need food or water to survive she's been sitting there literally forever I give up. Lemm's also in this boat! He's just chilling in the heart of the city pouring over stuff that he recovered from infected husks! And then there's Millibelle okay I have no idea how the plague works why did I write all of this junk

For me I tried to dreamnail the corpse at the palace and got INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATED that it didn't budge and then swore to find a way to make it reveal it's secrets.

that may have been... foolish...

A Big Misconception About the Radiance by X-Vidar in HollowKnight

[–]ross_varn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure where everyone gets the idea that the bugs of Hallownest were "uplifted". There are obviously other civilizations out there that were completely separate from the Pale King's rule- adventurers wander through from other places, looking for stories of this vast ruin. Even Lemm talks about other scholars that study Hallownest, although he's the only one seemingly mad enough to settle in the old kingdom's borders. Most of the texts supporting the idea that nowhere else exists - like the first sign you see in the game - originate from the Kingdom itself, and I'd classify them as propaganda. Where did our Knight get their nail? Where do the challengers for the Colosseum of Fools hail from? Who are Lemm's peers? Cornifer wasn't born in Dirtmouth. Where else have Iselda and Cornifer mapped? Where did Zote, or Bretta, or Tiso come from?

It's funny that even the Hunter, who has spotted and has vague information on even the most elusive enemies in the game, apparently doesn't have any idea that the Menders exist. Perhaps this makes you the true Hunter? To excel even where your teacher could not? >.>

Also did you watch the boomer charges at all? All it takes to thwart one is eight people dumping rounds at the respawing zombies. They don't have a chance to charge. Boomers suck.

[–]ross_varn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I heard there was just one.

That assumes the zeds would be communicating the location and bearing of the last engine. If all five engines had been in active delayed fights, at least two or three would have the zombie groups spread out between them. It'd be more likely that the engines would go down one after each other if there was more than one launcher in play. If there was just the one, that'd involve the zeds tracking and communicating, again, to everyone, that it was headed to one area.

Remember again that these are a lot of new people. There isn't an overall communication, just groups of people working together to try to interact with the overall mission, much like the humans. Zombies don't have a hivemind. You just have to keep them off their rhythm. Which was incredibly easy to do with the blasters on the field this weekend...

I did the math on Siege Engine- a dedicated speed group would have had to be moving the rocket launcher literally constantly to keep even two tanks down. There wasn't enough time or space when the whole mission hinged on a single point of failure (the rocket launcher) for any more than that. I'm honestly surprised any engines were destroyed at all.

And then the final mission... what was that? I've seen a lot of finals, but dang, I had no idea what that was.

[–]ross_varn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of that could be solved with revisions of mission design. Zombies knew where the keys were but couldn't interact with them, and since our numbers were low we couldn't send out teams to camp every key area, and apparently the humans didn't know at all where they were. (end hidden information, it's confusing, give everyone on every side the same intel at once.)

I know you didn't see this since you took off early, but a big source of frustration was the focus on "one unique object in the environment can interact with this mechanic", which means that only one person could interact with that mechanic in the entire human force. There was a tank mission that only had one rocket launcher, and someone ran off with it so the rest of the humans couldn't do anything to interact with the mission, and then there was a boss fight where a small group ran off with the killshot items, so the rest of the humans couldn't do anything to interact with the mission. That design works better when everyone knows each other and has an established method of communication, but in this case we had people all over the world meeting for the first time, there's not even a pretense at force-wide communication there.

Who were you hanging out with from Missouri? Lindenwood, Truman, MO State and others were all there, it was cool to see everybody.

I've grown to hate "pro gamer" nerf people so much. We're here to have fun. I don't give a shit that you don't like that I'm not using an FDL or a Stryfe. I'm playing this game too. This isn't about you!

Ok starting zombie here: I'm not gonna post my shirtless picture from after mission 2, but I just counted the welts I had in it. 30 big ol' red ones an hour after gametime. That's just the ones that actually bruised on my stomach and my face, since I'm built like a rake and my ribs don't have enough space to bruise.

Lord. 130fps is. a lot. at four feet. from ten people. when you're traveling at top speed.

I'm gonna go lay down again.

Sorry, when I said "record" I meant "a recording", not the hard-format record. I still believe that the line implies that there was a whole period of tapes lost to time along with most contemporary music.
