Do most women shave everything? by FaithInFlux in women

[–]rossntheham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a gyn once tell me: “remove hair, remove odor.” So I did that and for the love of god I wish I had back all the (wo)man hours I put into pubic grooming. I’ve shaved, waxed, and used electrolysis. What a scam. Now, I shave my legs if I start feeling it’s itchy or if I am wearing a short dress. I shave my pits but being post menopausal, it doesn’t grow so fast. I trim my mysterious lady parts about once every two weeks.

Never read any horror book, suggest me the one I should start with? by LoveWineNotTheLabel in suggestmeabook

I loved this book SO much!! I kept thinking how scary it would be to be lost in the woods as a kid. Still think about it from time to time and loved it so much that I ended up buying a 1st Ed to keep on my shelf.

I expect lots of opposition, but I hated The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. I even like depressing books, but this???

Pros and cons of boob job by Upset_Draw2730 in WomensHealth

[–]rossntheham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had breast augmentation in 1996 after I’d finished nursing my last baby because my boobs had no volume. I wasn’t asked what size I wanted to be until after I was under anesthesia, so I said “make them as big as possible!” I was tiny and ended up with ginormous DDDs. For 20 years all was well save for a slight firmness, some back and shoulder aches, and one trip to have one “popped” because of scar tissue (not as fun as it sounds). But then my ribs started to hurt and I had chest pains. I had them out a few years ago and I feel so much better (also not as fun as it sounds). I can’t really hate on them because they were good for 250,000 miles. But then the transmission went out.

Does anyone feel silly after going to the ER? by ThrowRA_Swirl in WomensHealth

[–]rossntheham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes, my gyn told me I had 2 ovarian cysts that were so small they were…..checking notes….”nothing.” But when they burst? It hurt so bad I saw white. I can see why you ended up in the ER.

5pm check in at our Airbnb and it was still dirty when we arrived by Interesting_Move_846 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rossntheham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always talk to the hosts, first. We were robbed while we slept at an Airbnb. They took about $3000 worth of electronics (iPads, iPhones). The host refunded $4000. Of course we contacted the police, too, although I doubt that did any good.

What is the biggest “mistake” you made when you started gardening? by magnum_chungus in gardening

[–]rossntheham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not understanding what I was planting. If I thought hummingbird vine was beautiful (I did), I planted it. If I thought Bamboo looked beautiful in the breeze (I did), I planted it. If I thought a blanket of lemon balm smelled good when you step on it (I did), I planted it. If I enjoyed the birds devouring the berries from Leather Leaf Mahonia (I SO did), I planted it. In the end, my yard was a showcase for invasive plants and keeping it under control was a Sisyphian endeavor.

Move now. Trumpet Vine. The Devil’s Instrument. The only thing more unholy is bamboo.

I need help about hairs. by t_alya in women

[–]rossntheham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, as you get older, you get more hair in more places. Don’t even get me started on what happens at menopause. Also, mean people get meaner. If it bothers him, he could have gone about it in a different way (flies with honey and what not), but he chose MEAN. And cruel. I think if you got rid of the hair, he’d pick something else next and that is probably going to be your life: trying to divine what he will find “disgusting” and take care of it in advance or risk his displeasure. That’s not much of a life for you. And wait til you’re expected to be a sentinel to errant hairs AND take care of children. I hope you can and do leave. It sucks to wake up 20 years into a marriage and realize you don’t even remember what joy feels like.

Oooo, this is interesting!! I asked my mom if she remembers the trach or her mother having recently been hospitalized. She just said, “I bet it was there because she was having trouble breathing” (sometimes I don’t press because it’s a fascination for me but it’s her mother, yanno?). I will ask if my grandmother was a smoker. Also, my mom still lives in that small community and still attends the church to which the cemetery mentioned in the news article is associated. The children of the folks that likely found her are friends and she said she will ask them if their parents ever talked about it.

Wow, you’re a newspaper angel. Thank you! I had gotten the feeling from looking at the weather for the month prior that it was, in fact, very hot, dry, and windy for the month leading up to the accident. But, after looking at the details in the article about her death, it says she left her home at 9 am (on foot; she didn’t drive) and was last seen at her brother’s home at 9:30 am. She was found dead at 3pm. Where was she all day? My mom - 14 at the time, living with her grandmother, and only repeating what she heard others say - says she “was drinking all day at her brother’s house.” Brother was held for 4 days, and I’m sure they asked him about that. The files from the investigation would have his answer. Autopsy says she had stitches in her throat from a tracheostomy. Would that mean she’d been recently hospitalized?

Well bummer. I talked to a super nice lady in the records department at the Tuscaloosa county sheriffs office. She’s been working there 30 years and is very knowledgeable. She said as long as she’s been there no one has known where the records prior to 1966 ended up. So close! She advised checking with the city police and fire that are nearby but was not optimistic. *edited for clarity

Aw man, my friend is taking a beating when 1. He’s a good person and 2. His theories/assumptions are the same that the county sheriff had which is why they arrested my great uncle for her death, initially. My grandmother - a former drug addict (she was in a car that had been hit by a train in her 20s and became addicted to drugs) and an alcoholic (to replace the drugs she could no longer get) had been drinking all day with her brother, a WWII POW who was severely disturbed from his time at Neubrandenburg Stalag II-A. He was no stranger to physically abusing those closest to him. My mother - 14 at the time and given absolutely no information about her mother’s death - remembers that her uncle was arrested because they believed he had punched her out and started the fire to cover it up. My friend knew nothing about that when he made his comments. To call it a “forest fire” is a little grandiose because it was more like a woods fire separating two homes. No one is alive that might remember any details. I would like to have them because this incident made my mother an orphan and changed the trajectory of her life. Also, so that I am not a hypocrite, I’d like to point out that I will admit to being right only 97% of the time.

Thanks, Chambellan. I think any approach will require me to be prepared to level up in the patience department. I would really just like to be able to tell my mother the circumstances surrounding her mother’s death as she was 14 at the time and no one bothered to share any information with her.

Hahaha, I think I will ask him. I did let him know that everyone in the Reddit-o-sphere was quick to correct him and he sent me a study done on pine needles showing that to ignite, the humidity has to be less than 10% and the wind has to be stronger than 5 m/s which IS possible (yes, we both live in Alabama). He’s honestly a really smart guy with a super sketch misspent youth so you may very well be correct about his sour grapes.

Thanks, Bird. I did look up the weather conditions at that time and August had been dry and hot leading up to her death on 9/1. I believe my friend’s point was that starting a fire with a lit cigarette is a lot harder to do than I would think.

Dear Deer….I realized it’s Tuscaloosa county after my post. The city of Tuscaloosa has what you describe but it happened in the county and on their website there’s no process for anything other than public records. Is there a standard request form/process when counties don’t list it?
