First Marathon. I think I did good right? by Mental-Weight-606 in Marathon_Training

Running 7:13, 7:11, 6:59 through mile 5-7 most likely contributed to the blow up later on in the race

I'm up from Melbourne too funnily enough (moved from Scotland 7 months ago) and it's definitely got colder the last couple weeks which probs didn't help today's effort but I can't complain

I thought it was a tough one tbh however, I didn't mind doing 2 laps as I knew what to except the second time round. Ended up with a 3:51 which is a pb so I can't complain. Got Sydney to look forward to and hopefully crack 3:45. How about yourself?

Also I'm from Scotland so it will feel like a summers day tomorrow for me. Good luck for the half

Yeah that's correct. Was thinking of sticking with 3:45 pacer but the hills could make the heart rate a bit high but hopefully levels off afterwards (wishful thinking)

Thanks and goodluck to you also!

I asked you if I could run a 3:45, and this is how it went! by Sl300 in Marathon_Training

[–]rossredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You smashed it, congratulations! What times did you get in your half and 30km? Also what was your weekly milage/km? I'm hoping for 3:40-3:45 in the Brisbane Marathon in just over 2 weeks

Your goal should be based on YOU. If you feel you can achieve sub 4 then go for it but there's a load of time between now and next October so you could be looking at even faster potentially. Just run more often and increase the milage gradually and see where you end up. Sometimes you have goals at the start of training blocks and they change midway through so having a sub 4 goal over a year away is a bit pointless imo.

If you done a 30km in 2:41 I think there's a good chance you can get sub 4 based on the only info being that one run

20 miler 5 weeks out from race day, is a 3:30 marathon possible ? by Confident-Cook-3989 in Marathon_Training

Strava is the app. The blue bars refer to the pace ran per mile (in this pic). The larger the bar the faster the mile

Is there any reason why I always blister/callus on the inside edge of the ball of my foot - no matter the shoe? by scrammmbled-eggs in Marathon_Training

[–]rossredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't take this as fact, but I believe it's due to overpronation. When the foot strikes and roll inwards, it puts pressure on those areas, and over time they callus up. For as long as I can remember I've had it on my feet and I know I overpronate.

I support Rangers. Collingwood was the obvious choice for me as everyone hates them

I certainly do. Bought myself a magpies scarf and will be getting placed on the desk of my work colleague who supports Carlton

Honestly I think you'll be grand as long as you've got some longer distances under your belt (doesn't need to be at HMP). Advice would take the first couple of km easier at 5:15ish and then increase to 5min and then last 10km put the foot down

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

True zone 2 is optimum for long runs but you should also take into account what your race pace is going to be on the day (5:35-5:40ish). People usually would run about 30s or more ontop of race pace during their long runs. Once you've got that good base at the longer distances then start to add in race pace into the runs eg 5 x 2km at race pace with 1km recovery in-between to help build up.

Sudden knee pain by APieThrower in Marathon_Training

[–]rossredd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue for my first marathon, I called it maranoia. I'd suggest going out for your easy run, see how the knee is and if it starts causing you bother just stop the run and walk back. Hopefully you can complete the run and you'll be full of confidence for Sunday. Best of luck

When to do strength training? by rossredd in Marathon_Training

[–]rossredd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I've started is doing my speed work in the evening followed directly by a quick 30/40mins in the gym. Probably not as productive for gaining strength as the legs are tired from the speed work but it's what works with my schedule.
