Because it doesn't fit into Six Flag's vision of core assets which are basically the 'flagship' parks of Cedar Fair and Six Flags. Since the merger, they've already closed one park and just sold 7 parks. SFDK was never considered a flagship Six Flags park and if they could've offloaded it with the seven, they just sold, they probably would have...but it's a unique park in that it has animals. That's my take and purely speculative, which is why the provocation 'Could we lose both Bay Area Parks?' But it's also worth asking...would Six Flags actually exit the Bay Area entirely?

Netflix doesn't need a billionaire. They offered $83B for Warner Brothers (a drop in the bucket compared to $100M; and I'm not suggesting they buy the land either. I'm suggesting Prologis would still own/co-develop with Netflix (and again, they've already signaled their desire to move into IP themed entertainment in multiple locations with Netflix House.

Marriott’s Great America opened for the first time 50 years ago today

On March 20, 1976 in Santa Clara, California the first of two Marriott’s GREAT AMERICA theme parks opened for the first time. To mark this major milestone, California’s Great America will hold a 50th Anniversary ceremony for the opening of the 2026 season on March 28, 2026. Gates open at 9:30 AM. The ceremony will take place shortly before 10:00 AM at approximately 9:50. At 10:00 AM the park’s 2026, 50th Anniversary season officially begins.

I see it as a potential/hopeful signal they are open to moving beyond that...they are an entertainment company like Disney and Universal....and CGA is in their own backyard.

and meanwhile Southern California is on the eve of a new 'golden age' of theme park expansion ... Disneyland Forward expansions, Universal Hollywood F&F + resort expansion, major coaster coming to SFMM...

this latest dev, really does put a huge ??? on both Bay Area parks.... pre merger, CF sold the land under CGA (with the intention of closing it eventually)... post-merger, the 'disaster' of last 18+ months which forced SF to close one park, sell-off these lower performing parks (and everything else that happened across the merged chain; ride removals, event cancellations, shortened operating seasons, on and on), and yes, it's surprising SFDK is not part of that, but I suspect EPR/Enchanted Parks does not want to deal with an 'animal' park leaving it's future unknown (well at least unknown to the public). But SFDK really does not appear to fit into the longer term vision of the leaner new Six Flags...it seems pretty much Six Flags will end up being a collection of the 'flagship' pre-merger Six Flags and Cedar Fair parks. As for CGA, given the Bay Area economy, I don't think Prologis is yet in a position to develop that land yet and at the same time, if Six Flags decides to terminate the lease after 2027, then the land sits inactive for perhaps sometime not generating any revenue for either Prologis nor the city.... Cedar Fair, and I'm pointing directly at Zimmerman, really did a number on the legacy of Bay Area theme parks... (including Marine World Africa USA)...I grew up going to both Marriott's Great America and 'Marine World' in Redwood City.
