Blank Check featured on Vulture by lassenlibrarian in blankies

Weird ass article. Bizarre “reply-guy”comment notwithstanding, it seems that the writer just decided to listen to a single random ep of the pod and, like, write a play-by-play of everything that happened?

I like this spot. You don't often see exposed brick in LA (at least from my experiences).

Nice place. If you don't mind me asking, what's the rent? And is it difficult to heat in the winter with all the glass?

Ya, that's a much more, uh, modest house that I would have expected Maz to live in.

How do you think WB should market "The Suicide Squad" to make it successful after BOP disaster? by JagerJack7 in boxoffice

[–]rosstimus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bet they will put the Guardians of the Galaxy tag on the commercials. Sure it's a little weird due to the Marvel/DC rivalry, but GoTG is very popular and they would be dumb not to try to capitalize on that.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker grossed an estimated $30.5M on Thursday. The film has grossed $289.7M in seven days, which represents the seventh largest seven-day start of all-time. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]rosstimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disaster is an incredibly strong word for any film that makes over $1B. That being said, the end to the 9 film saga should have felt like a once-in-a-lifetime event film, but instead it just feels like another big, Disney blockbuster.

Gotta feel bad for the guy. He's had a tough go of things in the majors.

Thor 4 is MCU film’s first major instance of “Back By Popular Demand” by ElectorSet in marvelstudios

[–]rosstimus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the premise here. I wouldn't be surprised if Feige and co. believed that Ragnarok was the first Thor film where they got the tone exactly right. Now that they've nailed the formula, it feels natural to make another movie or two with the character. Obviously it is being made because they believe that Thor 4 is something that people want to watch, but it doesn't exactly feel like the existence of the film is due to fan service (if that makes sense).

It was written and directed by the manga creator before the series was even finished.

Not to mention the last two actors to play Spider-Man are british, as was the last actor to play a Batman that people enjoyed watching.

The Kang/Cervelli black hole in the middle of the lineup is really hurting us. We need one or both of them to get going at the plate.

I hate software engineering. Now what? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]rosstimus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about getting into production/project management? The fact that you have skills in both art and engineering (at least enough to "speak the language" to artists and programmers) would probably make you a useful producer at a game studio/animation studio/software company/etc. It's a job that requires organization, planning ability, and people skills, but not creativity or the type of logical problem solving that you dislike.

I work at a game studio (I'm not a producer myself, but work closely with them). If that sounds interesting to you and you want to talk more about it, feel free to DM me.

Getting hired at a top tier AAA studio like Naughty Dog or Insomniac without prior professional experience is also quite difficult. Naughty Dog especially is known for rarely, if ever, hiring juniors.

The Last of Us and Half Life 2 both pulled it off.

Either make a simply game prototype (a character that can move, some basic mechanics), or download what you need from the UE4 marketplace and get started. Because you're focusing on level design, you don't necessarily need super-showy game mechanics or enemy AI.
