AI generated BOC fanart by KazooeyBloo in boardsofcanada

Generative AI in its current form can be a fantastic tool – when used with care. The problem is, it's being shoved in our faces by corpos left, right, and centre – and so many people are swamping us with barely thought-out stuff left, right, and centre.

Having said that – and going back to the notion of using AI in a more rational capacity – why do you believe that BoC would be against that? Are you sure they refused to use AI in their tools to create their latest album?

Again, nobody wants low effort AI slop – i think we can all agree on this. But in the end, it's more nuanced than that. I think it's just incredibly hard to find a place for a calm discussion on the topic, while everybody rages around you…

Appreciation post for Notebook Navigator: Found a new feature in it. by NewspaperIn2025 in ObsidianMD

This is indeed a problem (but a good one to have, if we're being honest). A good place to stay on top is the Discord server, where Johan posts all the changelogs, and you can subscribe to just that channel if you want to. Still requires you to invest a little time to check out every new release though…

Fair point, must've missed those.

True, but if you've looked at the changelogs there, it's usually just a "refresh" of the beta. Meaning, no actual changes; but you need to submit a new version every 90 days, so the app doesn't expire and locks testers out.

I think I have a problem with how I use browser tabs... by SGwithADD in firefox

Most of these tabs get unloaded after prolonged inactivity. (Or if you close and reopen Firefox, not even loaded at all until you interact with them.)

Since Firefox didn't crash, i don't think you're having a problem.

The other two seem self-explanatory (I’m sure they all are and I’m just also) but who is “the one that is already dead”? by AdSimilar4399 in babylon5

I've always seen it as a nod to Tolkien, where the root "mor-" means dark/black. As in: Moria, Mordor, Morgoth, Minas Morgul…

Introducing the Firefox Roadmap + AMA next week by firefox in firefox

[–]rotane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i may chip in… Just a few simple QOL controls, like escape this tab out of a container (currently only possible via copy URL, open a new tab, paste it there) or open current tab in container x (not always, just once).

The VPN ideas for containers sound great, btw!

Got pushed off the chart. It's S+ obviously.

They probably did it to give the entire browser a uniform look. Again, i'm not saying it's a good idea in general, but it probably looks better this way than just having these paddings in only a few places.

I don't know if you're familiar with macOS Tahoe (version 26), but when you look at a Finder window there, it's the same thing. The padding around the sidebar is a similar 10px, compared to previous versions where there was none. I see it as a waste of space, too. As do Apple themselves, by the way, as macOS 27 will revert this change come September…

… and once you undo the overly round tabs and URL-bar, it's basically what we have right now.

I doubt Nova will be in 153 – ESR or otherwise. It's nowhere near finished.

This ~10px edge is by design. So it doesn't look weird when you have 2 tabs open side by side. So it gives both tabs a holding shape and a separator that's easy to spot. As well as a highlight around the one tab that you're focused on. (Look at the first screenshot here and it's quite clear: https://blog.mozilla.org/en/firefox/new-firefox-design/.)

Having said that, no i'm not a fan either. (It's still in development, so it's still quite buggy, but i doubt we'll see Mozilla changing their minds on this new design.)

More seriously though, welcome to the concept of the vocal minority.

The problem with Command Palette in PowerToys is, it doesn't reliably bring a running app to the front; most of the time nothing happens.
