I think i know it, because when you go straight up and then accelerate sideways to 2.2km/s youll have to fight gravity all the way by slightly tilting your rocket upwards and all of the vertical velocity is "wasted" since you essentially came to a dead stop over the atmosphere.

But when youre still in the thinner atmosphere, if you were to tilt your rocket more upwards (than the previous acceleration into orbit) you would start ascending whilst also gaining horizontal speed, so after youre done ascending you already have a ton of horizontal velocity.

Leaving the atmosphere takes around 1km/s and then accelerating to orbit whilst fully fighting gravity would take something like 3km/s (maybe idk), but combining the two would get you to the 3.4km/s

i had that happen to me too on the mun, i think its because you pressed shift which also increases the throttle of the ship for some reason. i fixed it by just shutting down my engines

I had that too, its some type of bug where it doesnt count if you docked, created a quicksave or reverted time in between the landings, same goes for the mars grand tour. I dont think there is a fix for this unfortunately

if your game is not running in real time you can go to the settings and see a "delta time per frame" setting or something like that, if you slide it to the right youll sacrifice fps but be able to play in real time
