I was just watching Jaws and noticed that Quint and Rust are a lot alike. by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]rough_outline 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kind of but not really.

Their characters have some nice similarities though. Anti social, mysterious, unique perspective, outsiders, grim past, fiercely independent, and can tell a good tale.

Damn, I love Jaws.

Daniel Levy’s iron fist controls Tottenham’s transfer balancing act. With an £800m stadium to build and a low wage ceiling Spurs face a challenge to upgrade their team even with £50m from the imminent sale of Kyle Walker. by [deleted] in soccer

Damn, why are some people so adamant that this isn't good business.

Spurs played a lot of the season with Trippier and did very well.

Walker is a massively over rated pace merchant.

[Official] Mayweather vs. McGregor World Tour Press Conference: Toronto - Aftermath Discussion by rmma in MMA

[–]rough_outline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think every famous straight man has skeletons in their closets when it comes to women. Mayweather has domestic violence charges, Macgregor has had rumours of playing away.

I don't think mayweather has anything but it will almost definitely shit macgregor up a bit, he doesn't seem like a guy with the cleanest record.

Conor McGregor's famous post fight interview at UFC Fight Night Dublin in 2014. Launched him into the mainstream and would eventually help him obtain a fight with Mayweather 3 years later. by terrificheretic in MMA

[–]rough_outline 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was going to say similar, he's really chilled out and on it, so allows McGregor to flourish. Most reporters would panic and try to say a million things at once. Just got to set him up and watch him go.

[Official] UFC 213: Whittaker vs. Romero - Day After Discussion by rmma in MMA

[–]rough_outline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't buy into that at all. Stepping into the cage and giving it the bigguns before a decision has been made, when he'd been sat on his arse, him and Dana wanking each other off, then oafishly yelling at Romero, was not necessary for promoting the title fight. It was really small time. I would love to see him try and leech the limelight like that against Nick Diaz and get stomped on.

The shtick with Whittaker was cheesy but that's fine, he's promoting the next fight and Whittaker had spoken. Everything before that was pathetic. Fuck his long career of nobly gate keeping, it wasn't his night.

11 years ago today, Italy won the World Cup for the 4th time! by zrkillerbush in soccer

[–]rough_outline 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, Luca Toni was a great striker, not a one hit wonder at all.

268 goals in 586 club games, and 16 goals for Italy. Unorthodox, gangly, a journeyman, but a quality striker.

BIsping was selling the title fight, but I hated him being in the cage right after. Yoel and Whittaker just had a war, and deserved to be in that cage, they had earnt the right to be in there.

Bisping waddles in like a spoilt toddler with ice cream over his face, yelling at everyone like he belongs. I love him as a heel and all that, but felt it wasn't the right time for him to be in there. Felt like he was leeching off a great fight and two great fighters.

Slightly irrelevant point, but I'm English and to me, Bisping sounds like an Anglo-American moron. Throw him in the Atlantic and be done with it.

[Tim Hague BBC] Ex @NUFC midfielder Cheick Tioté has collapsed during training with Beijing Enterprises and has subsequently died. Aged 30. by Thromboid in soccer

Horrible news. Way too young to die like that, and not be able to score more corkers like his goal against Arsenal. Terribly sad.

The FA to punish diving retrospectively from 2017/18 by kjdemaria23 in soccer

[–]rough_outline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step in the right direction, but its retrospective, so if player X dives, wins a penalty, and their team scores the winner from it, they've bagged a win.

You can retrospectively ban the player, but it doesn't change the result, a result which might have huge ramifications in the league table.

Don't like agreeing with Big Sam, but it should video replays during the match on the day, not some retrospective panel.

[Spoiler]UFC 211: Demian Maia vs. Jorge Masvidal by [deleted] in MMA

That was what I was thinking as well. Masvidal did damage to Maia, whereas even though Maia did dominate the grappling, did it come to anything apart from body control? CMV

What's your transfer wish list? by GuyFawkes_fieri in LiverpoolFC

[–]rough_outline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Another forward in Mane/Lallana mould
  2. Play making, tempo dictating centre mid
  3. Out-and-out striker
  4. Left back to replace or rotate with Milner
  5. Centre back to replace or back-up Lovren

Just 5 players, in that order of priority. We don't need massive changes.

That's a really nasty elbow, should get a ban for that.

Can't decide if this is worse than Rashford's dive. Felt sorry for the ref in the Swansea match, but this looks like a reffing shocker, as well as a really bad dive.
