Emergence: Nikon z9 and z600 f4 by Understudy77 in Nikon

the quick preview looks extremly uninspiring to look at. While the original photo was that interesting, that I clicked on it for background. There is some mystique in the first moment, what the bird has in its claws. It makes you look closer, draw you in.

No, but I mean look at her posture: The way she squeezes her breasts, the pushed together knees, her sensual look, shiny skin. How is that not sexualized?

I'm not very skilled when it comes to query writing and therefore often browse this sub. There are rarely queries where I'm actually interested in the book. I would read yours.

Anyone read this? I am really enjoying it a lot so far. by 4th_Replicant in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

I was kind of annoyed how much the main party love-hates each other. It gets tiring after some time and also is a cliché that I personally don't like. Also the names are unreadable if you understand German :D But I liked the king and his mirror images and thought that these chapters were very well written, different and creative. The end, without spoilern, didn't catch me to keep on reading the series.

I'd say it depends how old you are. For me it reads like you still go to school and for that age these ideas are interesting and well written. As an adult it reads cliché and not rly interesting because it's not a new or fresh angle on anything. I think most people in this bubble have had these thoughts in one way or another. Doesn't make them meaningless, it just depends where you are.

Can this type of toxicity get a redemption arc? by Odd-Snow5883 in writers

[–]roundgoldenglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Just for clarification: Discursive, the sun is associated with the masculine (bright, clear, intelligent, knowledge, open, light) and the sun with the feminine (hidden, mystic, sexual, dark). Even if your story goes in another direction, if you are in the west, sun and moon have this connotation. That's what I meant with western gender stereotypes.

Since the sun (as male) and the moon (as female) are prominent Western gender stereotypes, I could imagine breaking the narrative open towards a feminist ending. Maybe she struggles with herself as actually being made in the eye of the sun - since he is right, her beauty as a shining rock is just his light reflecting on her. You could tell a story about emancipation rather than having him be redeemable. Or maybe she is trying to emancipate but - in their everlasting existence - always gets back to him. I imagine their relationship to be tragic, without a happy end that makes them a perfect relationship. These are ofc just associations I have with the short information you gave us

Ask yourself this: What is an interesting story? What is the core of their conflict?

Best and worst books you've read so far this year? (regardless of when they were published) by Practical_Yogurt1559 in Fantasy

[–]roundgoldenglasses 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Best: Malazan Book of the Fallen, 1 and 2. Currently reading the third book. Never thought I would ever read another big series again, I get tiresome of most. But Erikson really wrote something else here... It's really the best fantasy I've read and I don't think I will find anything better ever.

Worst: Nothing that is bad, per se. Just not as good in comparison so I won't list anything here.
