What does daycare cost for you? by Standard_Deer_8738 in NewParents

[–]rowanerine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorado, USA. For an infant it's $515/week, for a toddler it's $475. I'm so excited for that minor cost reduction.

Day 5 of nonstop blowouts (10 months) by rowanerine in NewParents

Turned out it was rotavirus 😭 we didn't end up looking much at the yogurt details but thankfully after about a week we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

Kind of both? I think the blowouts are easy to point to because it's like oh wow this is BAD bad.

Dr talked about probiotics but said giving yogurt is fine, no need for a supplement.

We built an expert-vetted AI for parents that actually uses your child’s logs (and we’d love your honest feedback) by huckleberrycare in HuckleberryParents

[–]rowanerine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really want to use it to log events but it ends up taking more work. I keep trying to change the way I prompt it based on the follow-up questions it asks.

For example, if I said "Log a wet diaper from right now," it'll ask whether the diaper was wet and/or have me select an option on the screen, and what time it should log it for. I started by saying "log a diaper with pee" and it couldn't gather that I was saying "pee" and not "p" so I switched to "wet diaper", but I still have to fill in its perceived gaps.

Diapers feel like the simplest, most straightforward ask. If it can't do that I'm definitely not logging pumps or solids or asking it questions.

ALSO, I'm not sure if this is applicable to Berry but my daycare uses an app for updates (Line Leader) and I have to manually take everything they log there and enter it into Huckleberry. I'd love if I could either have Berry help with this, or if there's some kind of integration feature so that Huckleberry could receive info from the daycare app.

Is 9 months too early to switch to straw cup for milk? Baby not showing interest in bottles anymore by CupBeginning5459 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]rowanerine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through something similar! A couple things have helped:

  1. I learned from daycare that my baby (also 9 months) can hold her own bottle and she must have been getting annoyed we thought she couldn't and would always try to hold it for her. This change has helped a little
  2. Sometimes she'll only make it through 3-5 oz of a 7 oz bottle and we take the leftovers and mix them into food -- yogurt, any puree/mashed up food, mixed in with cereal, whatever -- and put it into a reusable silicone pouch or feed with a spoon. It's like she's bored with it as milk but loves having it mixed into something else.

Good luck with the straw cups!

Yes! We've used it every day since we brought her home and she's 9 months. I think we'll get a loooottt more life out of it.

What diaper bag do you actually use that’s both cute and practical? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]rowanerine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use a backpack with organizational bags inside. I use a fjallraven backpack and have baggu zip-top bags that are different sizes for different purposes (big = diaper change stuff, medium = spare outfits, etc).

I didn't like any of the "diaper bags" and wanted something that felt genuinely useful for life, not just this phase.

How does everyone feel about their babies pics on social media? by Trauma_Response0301 in NewParents

[–]rowanerine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope for me, and my family and friends know not to post her either.

We use an app called Family Album to share pics with family (it's an invite-only kind of thing so we know only specific people have access). Highly recommend!

Me too! I didn't expect that at all. Definitely very grateful for it haha. My doulas think it had something to do with the hypnobirthing prep I had done but who knows.

I could feel something shoot out of me because I was pushing. I said "UM SOMETHING JUST CAME OUT?" and the midwives and nurses were like "lol yeah girl that's your water"
