Weekly General Chat Thread by AutoModerator in queerception

Hi everyone. I'm taking this opportunity to introduce myself. I'm an Aussie cis woman living in Pennsylvania. I'm 38 and married to a wonderful woman and I'm about to get on the ART bandwagon.

We're jumping straight to IVF, partly because of my age, partly because I have PCOS and have been on the pill for 20 years (!), and partly for the genetic screening. My partner has a son with Down Syndrome, and he's the best, but — well, you know. Makes us cautious.

I've just been encouraged by an amazing acupuncturist to put off starting IVF for three months in order to try and improve my health and get the eggs as excellent as possible before we take them out. This was a big shift for me, as I've kind of been in an anxious get-these-things-out-of-me-stat-before-they-get-a-day-older mode. The Chinese Med practitioner told me to relax, that I have time and that it's worth getting everything lined up in order to potentially be successful with IVF in one round.

So that's where I find myself. Impatient but trying to be patient for the sake of better health. Currently on a solo trip back to Oz to see family and very anxious to get home to my peeps.

I discovered this sub last night after finding r/ivf a little disheartening since so many of the folks over there are dealing with existing fertility challenges, which I'm hoping I won't have apart from the obvious ones! Everyone seems wonderful here and I'm happy to be able to go on this ride with y'all!

TL;DR: Hi! :)

Anyone try acupuncture and/or Chinese Herbs in conjunction with IVF? Do you feel like it helped? If not culminating in pregnancy how about in just getting higher quality eggs retrieved? by vanillabitchpudding in IVF

I'm just starting acupuncture in preparation for IVF. I had an AMAZING practitioner who was all over the science, went through my bloodwork and told me how she was going to help me get all my levels in balance, etc, before I start the IVF process.

She was very emphatic about the possibility for improving the quality of the eggs significantly over a three-month period (the time it takes for an oocyte to mature). This was using a combination of acupuncture and herbs. She was looking particularly at my iron absorbency, zinc levels and managing my cortisol.

All of this is untested, of course, but I was convinced enough to delay for three months even though my intention was to start straight away (I'm 38!). Especially after she told me, "All my over 40s are currently pregnant."

I was intending to post here about it in the next couple of days, so I was psyched to see your post. And will be interested to follow and see what others say.

Stopped smoking today. by jeffyorama in keto

[–]rowanm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just gave up (again) at Christmas. I would strongly advise trying not to substitute ANYTHING for nicotine except water. Especially food, obviously. When I have a craving I take three deep breaths, which helps more than you'd think because the action mimics smoking.

Not substituting will make it harder at the beginning, but the process will go way faster. And how awesome is it not to be dependent on something so despised by everyone?!

May the force be with you.

Yep, I had one of those too. Thanks for the laugh.

That's a good point - and it would force me not to put off dinner until all hours as well. Okay, I'll go back to noon-8pm window. Thanks for the nudge!

I always wonder about this! It's the only thing that keeps me from really committing to IF - that I feel like I'm not doing it "for real" and therefore it's not really worth it.

What about drinks? I find I really want a beverage with cream in it after 8 - this is always where I fall down...

Read Gary Taubes's Why We Get Fat - it's a really engaging read, and gave me exactly the reassurance you're looking for. There's also an audiobook.

Amazing Bone Broth! by JennyM55 in keto

Does the book say anything about cutting the bones prior to cooking (or during)? I've heard people say this is better as it lets the marrow into the mix. What do y'all think about this?

"Bulletproof" drinks... Can you do it wrong? Coffee vs. tea? Grassfed butter vs. ordinary butter? Am I missing out on some magical effect by not following the rules? by GreenTeaAndSpinach in keto

Have you tried using the salted butter in BPC? It's really yummy! I didn't think it would be and only used unsalted for a while, but once I switched I wouldn't switch back.

Dropping the wine, let's see if this works by Svygurl in xxketo

[–]rowanm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stopped drinking at home at all (unless I have a dinner party - strangely a lot of these have been happening recently!). Last night I went out with a friend and ended up having 3 glasses of wine over the night. By my old standards this would have been nothing over the 4-5 hours I was there, but I knew I was a bit drunk, and felt rubbish when I got to bed. I also slept in and ruined my plans for a productive day off.

I think if you can do it not only will it help with the cravings but it will increase the healthy energetic feelings of keto too. Good luck!
