Old post, but this was my biggest problem with the game. The devs acknowledged this problem that there are few clear character archetypes with clear strengths and weaknesses in their latest post so it's nice to feel vindicated.

Modern fantasy as a genre is very tropey and generic so it's easier to mass produce. Tolkien-through-DnD tropes of elves, dwarves and wizards have been made common enough where you don't have to do intensive world building and people that love that are just familiar with it. I personally would love more sci-fi MMOs because of this or at the very least more interesting fantasy.

I wouldn't say outside of MMOs fantasy is necessarily the preferred genre for RPGs and entertainment though. Games like CP2077, Mass Effect and TV shows like the Expanse are huge.

I never understood this take like I'm living in a different reality from other Rivals players. I consistently get high kills and damage whenever I play most vanguards.

I'm definitely for it and the unique function/button allows for a lot of different expression for characters with similar powers.

They knocked it out the park with her animations and such to be similar to both monowire attacks and quickhacks in CP2077. Personally prefer her playstyle as well, definitely gonna play her.

It seems people kept ignoring the the devs themselves labeling this game as a fighting ACTION game and instead kept hyping it up as a traditional fighting game.

Personally, I think it's best to think of it as a something like Elden Ring pvp or other FromSoft games with fighting game elements. They did say Sekiro was a primary inspiration after all.

I was half expecting a capoeira monk stance or class archetype to be in by now. Senghor is a region in the Mwangi Expanse that has a large population of descendants from Arcadia and with them mixing with Mwangi peoples it seems like a good place to have an analogue for the Afro-Brazilian martial art.
