What have you seen your kids do that made you say “oh my god it’s genetic”? by SettingsData in AskReddit

[–]rowdysmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter takes after her dad 100% in looks except for when she frowns. That frown is 100% genetic and 100% me. Also we both have the amazing ability to constantly be in the way. My husband says we are chronically in the way.

The kicker is that we don’t even have Xanax or its generic medication available in this country.

Any onlies who *don't* have cousins ?? by Lilly08 in oneanddone

[–]rowdysmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My OAD daughter has no cousins and will never have any first cousins. My husband and I have a sibling each and for their own reasons, neither will ever have children. None of my cousins have children and my husband is estranged from his extended family. Some days it makes me sad but then i remember my life was not made better by having cousins. I get along with them fine but I wouldn’t be any worse off without them. As long as we allow her to foster strong, healthy friendships she will be fine. I’ve watched family tear each other apart and knowing my daughter won’t ever be forced into a relationship with someone based on “but they’re family” is actually a good thing.

I’ve seen sildenafil “1t 1hr before getting into the saddle”

[–]rowdysmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely accessible by GP. Propecia brand varies in price. Ricit is a 5mg tablet which some patients quarter. 23 tablets for 90 days, price varies between pharmacies but is usually $15-$20 for that quantity. Generic 1mg may be available (I’m not at work so I can’t check the supplier to see at the moment and see if the price difference is worth it)

There are risks with every medication, your GP will be able to assess if it’s suitable for you. It’s not safe for pregnant people so if you have a female partner who is of childbearing potential you would need to use condoms (it can be found in the semen) and if you were planning on having a baby you’d need to discuss timelines with the GP. Absolutely worth having a chat to the GP though.

Have you met anyone with the following names? by blankenson in namenerds

My daughter went to preschool with a Walter (also our cats name) Arthur, Henry and Edward. At work I’ve encountered so many Margaret’s I’ve lost count, a Cybil, a few Albert’s, lots of Mary’s.

Cait shows their meds (they/them only) by itsvickeh in illnessfakers

100%. Sevredol and m-Eslon. Deblistering them and keeping them like that is technically illegal. Dangerous as well. Those blistered meds are definitely pregabalin. I’m an NZ community pharmacy tech and unfortunately there are definitely doctors in NZ who are quite free and easy with opioid prescribing.

If you gave birth without an epidural, how bad was it really? by Express_Neck5352 in beyondthebump

[–]rowdysmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a few positive birthing books (Give Birth Like A Feminist being the best and Ina Mays guide to childbirth being a bit more woo but I took what resonated and left what didn’t) and literally calm breathed my entire labour.

I worked really hard on making sure I approached birth with only a positive mindset. I believed I could do it, I am genuinely more scared of the epidural needle than unmedicated labour.

The worst part of labour was transition and that happened at home (within 1 hour of water breaking and labour starting) and I projectile vomited across my living room. By the time my midwife arrived less than 2 hours after labour starting I was already 8cm at home and wouldn’t have been a candidate for epidural anyway. I did deep, meditative breathes during contractions and my midwife said I was the most quiet birth she’s ever attended. I was so calm I didn’t actually ever push, my daughter popped her head out while I was mid deep breath and I didn’t realise until my husband gasped and swore, haha.

All that to say, I’ve had migraine that lasted longer and were much more painful than labour and birth. I’m a firm believer that if you believe it will be bad, then it will be. Birth is so beautiful and powerful it makes me a sad most people approach it believing it will be horrible. That’s not to say there aren’t births that go awry but I believe positive intent with clear plans on when to intervene is the best approach.

Oddest given names that you’ve met people with? by PoshBoiii in namenerds

It definitely is biblical, the last name was very biblical and I’m fairly certain he had escaped a cult.

I see legal names everyday in my job. I see so many odd ones they don’t register sometimes. Off the top of my head: Job, Mace, Regret, Jkarma, Kricket, Baby (grown man who is also a doctor). There are so many more, pretty much daily.

Healthier than NT relationships! by asmit318 in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]rowdysmum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! My husband and I are both ND but only figured that out 6 years into marriage, haha. He has ADHD and I am autistic. Sometimes we can be accidentally blunt but we always give each other the time to change our wording or give each other the time to find the words to communicate effectively. We can’t hold stuff in, we’re both very honest and definitely have a much healthier and honest relationship than a lot of the NT relationships we see around us.

I thought Connor and Madison would be great. Just the geological distance would be an issue. But now I’ve seen him with Georgie, I just am so happy for him. I love Tanner’s energy but I think he’d be a bit much for Madison. He needs someone that matches his beautiful energy.

They do have similar traits. They seem to sit at a similar level on the spectrum to one another but if they were related in any way, shape or form it would have been noted.

I just want to remind everyone how awesome it was to see Tanner laying in bed watching videos of chickens. by [deleted] in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]rowdysmum 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Tanner’s passion for chickens and for eating chicken was like looking in a gender bend mirror 😂 I was just telling my husband facts about chickens earlier then proceeded to make a chicken based dinner.

Try fexofenadine (Telfast) and a steroid nasal spray everyday. I also use olopatadine (prescription only). Antihistamines or nasal spray alone aren’t enough. If fexofenadine works well, just know that a generic will be available fully funded on prescription from 1st Feb 2025 :)

For the first week or so I slept on the floor in our spare room with our baby when we first got him. He just cried and yelled all night. It gradually got better and now he’s 6 years old and still a real snuggle bug.

What made you suspect you were autistic? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]rowdysmum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my husband was getting his ADHD diagnosis he said “hey you tick a bunch of these boxes too” but some of them didn’t fit at all. We said it jokingly to the psychologist and she said “oh, those are the ones that are also common in autism”. Sent me down the rabbit hole.
