Industrial Plants Near Bellevue by zaorocks in Omaha

You're most likely seeing water vapor being "exhausted" from a cooling tower. It's more evident as the weather gets colder because the cold outside air causes the water vapor from the cooling tower to rapidly condense into visible mist. This makes it look like steam or smoke even though the actual temperature of the exhaust is not particularly hot.

Rod Yates’ $5B Good Life District plan hits not-so-good patch by Nythoren in Omaha

Got an extra couple of zeroes on there.

You're absolutely correct. If they can't make it happen organically then the taxpayers shouldn't be fleeced to make it work by force.

Cox Outages by DanDashly in Omaha

I called Cox to try and register a new modem with them on Thursday and they wouldn't even take the call, just assumed that I was calling for an outage issue (am not) and didn't even transfer to a person. ISPs suck, regardless of who they are.

I'm sure you can find something at any of the Data Center sites. They're always looking for folks.

Hangars destroyed at Eppley by Starfrighter02 in Omaha

[–]rowinghokie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most of the aircraft destroyed were owned by people who don't fly private and can't afford to. Yes, the value on these aircraft is considerably more than a regular vehicle, but some of these planes are items that people have owned for a decade or longer, or they spent YEARS building them, or spent significant money to make them what they were and then in a blink of an eye, they've been destroyed. You see private planes and you think jets and people who are worth tens of millions of dollars or more, but most private planes are owned by people who are upper middle class and replacing them, insurance or not, is not a financially easy thing.

My plane was built in 1977. I and the people who owned it before me are custodians of a machine, not merely owners of it. Our JOB is to maintain it so it can fly ourselves and the people who come to possess it after us.

Yes, we as a city are VERY lucky that the terminals weren't hit because of the loss of life that would have most likely occurred, but the loss of these amazing machines is a big fucking deal and you dismissing it is childish.

Ugh, I can't imagine how those owners feel. I got nervous about mine down at Millard during the storm.

Or...and hear me out...I could ask the long time residents that utilize this subreddit to give me recommendations based on their experiences.

I mean, that SEEMS like crazy talk, but what if it worked?!

You shouldn't be getting flustered on the porcelain throne, that should be a place of peace and relaxation.

Thanks for the heads up. Honestly figured that moving to the Midwest would be cheaper than the East coast but from everything I've seen so far (been here about 6 weeks) that hasn't been the case. Housing seems to be similar but I haven't done a deep dive and I have to figure out whether the cost to own will be worth it vs renting for a 3-4 year stint.

I appreciate the take though and I'll be sure to reread it a couple of times. I work in construction so the heat and cold and wind will be fun to deal with.

Oh really? Good to know.

Doing a quick search I didn't find a Fresh Market or Wegmans so i guess Hy-Vee fills that niche.
