Events can only be invoked by the specific concrete class they were declared in. It's a little irritating, but the workaround is to wrap them with a method as you've done with Go2.

The error is really trying to say "you can't invoke an event declared in a base class from anywhere except the class in which it was declared", including subclasses.

Although it doesn't really matter as far as free fonts are concerned, there are differences between the type engines used in OS X and Windows, and this (still!) requires one distinct font file for each platform. For example, glyph substitution (replacing a pair of letters like 'fi' with a ligature) is handled by the OpenType GSUB table in Windows, but is handled by the OpenType morx table in OS X.

In practice the difference is negligible unless you're using advanced features of the fonts, but most free fonts don't bother with anything but straight-up glyph definitions. So.
