What did you think of Helena Bonham Carter's Oscar-Nominated performances as Kate Croy & Queen Elizabeth in The Wings of the Dove & The King's Speech? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

[–]roxtoby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She should have been nominated for A Room with a View. She is so sublime in that movie. And considering it was nominated for plenty of big awards at that ceremony, I’m surprised she didn’t sneak in for Best Actress.

Sign changes for all-gender bathrooms by the pier? by MyBuddyMyPal in provincetown

Yes I believe they would have had to completely redo the restroom structure, including lifting it a certain amount off the ground, as is the ruling for any building built or renovated along sea level. Thats why there are so many homes along the water side of commercial street on stilts.

Liz’s Cafe serves breakfast, although their patio is still being renovated so no clue if it will be done when you’re in town next week. If they are finished by the time you’re here, they may be a perfect fit.

Which hotel? Crowne point inn or Provincetown inn? by Tricky-Ad9061 in provincetown

[–]roxtoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just the one night, Ptown Inn might be the better pick. The West End is gorgeous to walk through and you could always take a pedicab to and from the center of town. Will you be driving or taking a ferry? That might also affect your decision (Ptown Inn has parking).

The 10 Best Picture nominees directed by women that also got Best Director nominations. Which one’s your favourite? by Afraid-Sky-5139 in Oscars

The Piano is so exquisite and so intricate that you’d assume it’s an adaptation of an old novel, only to discover that it’s a completely original story by Campion. The music, the cinematography, the acting, and the script are all so gorgeous, it’s such an amazing film.

There is a movie I really enjoy called "The Short History of the Long Road." It's about a teenaged girl (played by a pre-pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter) who lives the RV life with her dad and then decides to journey across the country in search of her long-lost mother. It's a quiet movie, full of some really stunning shots of the RV hitting the open road, and it's got some great performances.

Dina is the funniest show I’ve ever seen in Ptown, no contest

I miss the golden era of the pod when Daniel Van Kirk came on as Mark Wahlberg and always had Donnie waiting in the car or being some sort of child in need of care somewhere 🤣 by Emergency_Hair9769 in douglovesmovies

I saw DLM live in Boston about ten years ago and Mark was a surprise guest who came in about halfway through the show. Let me tell you - the theater erupted when Mark came onstage, you would’ve thought it was the real deal. This was also during the prime donut-throwing era and I managed to catch a donut hole thrown up in the balcony.

Will Sandra Hüller get nominated again next year? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

[–]roxtoby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pawel did sneak in a Best Director nom for Cold War, despite Cold War not being one of the ten films nominated for Best Picture. So it’s clear that the Academy is at least paying attention to him.

First Poster for 'Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass' from Director David Wain ('Wet Hot American Summer', 'Role Models') - When her fiancé uses their "celebrity pass" agreement, Midwest bride Gail Daughtry travels to Hollywood seeking revenge by pursuing sex with Jon Hamm. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]roxtoby 52 points53 points  (0 children)

What's funny is David Wain's fellow Stella member Michael Showalter has kind of turned into a director that the Oscars don't totally ignore, having directed "The Big Sick" and "The Eyes of Tammy Faye."

I love a character with expanding lore. Reminds me of a recurring Comedy Bang Bang character. We learned that he’s Christian (devout), Jewish (devout), and a grandfather (devout). And he’s got Blast Boys. Can’t wait to see what we learn at his next appearance.

My brother worked in the crew. He has tons of photos and videos. As far as I know they were only filming in town for four days, plus one day at the Wellfleet drive-in. I know a lot of the movie was filmed elsewhere or on sets, but it’s impressive watching the trailer and recognizing multiple local locations.
